I need help deciding what type of brushless
motor would be sufficent for serious racing at
the track, with the Team Losi XXX CR 2wd buggy.
There are so many brushless motors on the market
and I don't have any idea about electric motors since
I mainly use Nitro 1/8 scale vehicles.

Are you racing stock (17.5T), superstock (13.5T) or Modified (any motor)? Novak has some nice sensored sport systems about to come out shortly...140-150$ range for ESC & Motor...

I would run a mod motor. trinity came out with their new pulse line of mod bl motors ranging from 7.5 down to 3.0

the new lrp vector mod motors look awsome as well

Pretty Much all the Factory drivers in my area run Novak GTB's esc with a 6.5 motor. This is for a indoor clay track. I maybe a 5.5 on an outdoor track? I personally run a Tekin RS Pro and love it!

your track size and dirt type also has a big impact on your motor descision. 6.5 and 7.5 are more torque motors. 5.5 is a happy medium. 4.5 and 3.5 are horsepower motors (speed)

Well the track I race on is designed for 1/8 scale buggies with about 10, 5 foot jumps and 25 other 1 foot jumps and a large number of turns on red clay.

I heard Novak was a great brand for electric motors but all the ones I have seen were like $250 for a speedcontrol and motor, which seems to be a bit much
I was kind of hoping for a good motor and speed control for just under 200
that 8.5 looks good enough for $150 Kind of want a brand that doesnt have the reputation towards breaking just as O.S has for Nitro cars. I hear good things about Novak.

I kind of wanted to match the buggies speed with my RC10GT2 with 0.15 O.S and Inferno buggy with 0.21 O.S, The electric cars have fast acceleration which is nice when u have five foot jumps all over the track where u do a turn then u have a big jump kind of harsh on my RC10gt2 haha
40-50mph seems reasonable for an electric car

If your on a budget, look at the Castle Creations set-ups. Both the Sidewinder and Mamba Max are solid units and have tons of tuning options with the castle link. Not 100% sure on price, but worth checking out!

Yeah I looked at those too, they had some around my price range, just haven't heard to much about them, but they look just like any other brushless motor system to me

instead of spending 120 on a servo, you can spend around 60 for one that is just as well for offroad. so put that 60 towards your motor combo and you can start to afford your higher-end setups. i personally went with the losi xcelorin setup (10.5) as my truck is losi and it's fuly programmable. heard/read good things about it as well.

229 shipped from amain. also novak is coming back out with the "sport line" under the havoc name, expect 150-160 for those shipped from amain.

if your going to race, go sensored. and make sure your roar approved (Castle is not from what I understand)
