Take your CAR, RADIO and BATTERIES on in a carry on bag. This way if anything happens to your luggage you can borrow everything else at the track... Hard to race without Radio, car and Batts.
Goto Walmart and get you one of these:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=2476189
They are in the automotive area and are only like $30
Pack Charger, power supply, soldering iron and such in that.
Check that just as you would your regualr ole luggage.

You can book your room at any time now,the hotel is ready. Remember that the closer we get to Nov. the harder it is to get a room with two beds

I usually have a back pack and a carry on. Fit the car and other stuff the to pack pack and the rest to the hand bag. everything else gets checked.
I usually have a minimum with me to race. that included (obliously) the car, the radio, 5 packs, charger, small discharger, 8 amp power supply (small one), 1.5mm, 2mm and 2.5mm hex wrenches, tamiya 4 way nut remover, all placed neatly in a parts box with some spares(suspension arms one front one rear, spare screws for car and motor, axle bearings, one cvd, pinion rack, spare spurs and battery tape.
the rest is taken by 1 nights worth of clothing just in case the night mare happens. This setup wil put you around 7kgs +-2kgs depending on your equipment. and the back pack will be around 5kgs.
This way if you loose your checked bags you can at least race unless your middle name is Unlucky.
For airlines I would suggest to stay away from Lufthansa as their carry on and check in capacity is very low. 20 checked 8 carry on.
I usually fly TUrkish Airlines which have 30 checked and 10 carry on
equipment is heavy so plan ahead. it may even be wise to buy 2 tickets. Sometimes it is cheaper than overweight charge. when you buy the 2nd ticket remind the nice lady that noone is sitting on one chair so you have more dead weight you can carry.
what ever you do make sure to check airline regulations and rules.
fly with an airline that has more weight limit on bags
if none fits the bill buy 2 tickets fromthe cheapest one.
I can get a ticket from Istanbul to Chicago for 399 in off season or early buy option. 5 nights stay will make me bring one luggage of clothes and one luggage of equipment. that will put me around 70 that will make 40 kg extra. at 10 dolars per kg per flight that will put you to 1600 usd for dead weight. (4 flights ist - chi, chi ist, chi -cle, cle-chi) So buying and extra ticket is the way for me.
plus with the second seat you can travel more comfortably

Keep the practice like it is. If you change it that means everyone has to get there a day earlier for Practice to set up pits for the AM practice on Wednesday. As it is right now you can check in into your room by 1pm. for practice that starts after 4pm. That means 1 more day off work or school and that means more money spent for the racers.
