Yep, the shaft runs through a small metal plate that sits at an angle for tension. You can see this in close up pics. Push on the lever and you move the shaft to where you need. They work great. It's nice to use them in a small hand held driver. Teardown or quick adjustments are simple. I've been using mine since Dec. 05 right after they were released. Haven't replaced anything yet, anodizing has stood up to my abuse. The plastic colored caps are all still tight to snap back on the end. And the tips seem perfect still.

The new EDS are very good and you can get the replacement tips also. They have flooded the LHS's here in SoFLa. They have so many tools to chose from. Buy either their singles, combo sets or go for the entire set of your chose from their website.

The LHS's keep running out of these tools everywhere.

1. MIP, they have been the standard for years and you cant beat how hard the tips are.
2.Hudy, the quality is obvious, has replaceable tips and a complete range of tools if you need to match.
3.JConcepts, now with a full range of tools also, color coded, and replaceable tips.

I can tell you this. I own tools, lots of tools. Over $50K worth of tools from years of automotive work. Tools will all wear out, not matter what brand it is. A lot of the tools mentioned are very good, so loosing a tip ever so often is not much at $4-$8 each sometimes. The entire EDS intro 26 piece tool special is still cheaper than one set of my metric Snap-On sockets. And you still need a racket to go with it.
