Default Ever wonder what the "scale" weight of your car is?

Have I been smoking too much weed or what? But, if my "real" car weighs in at 2,800 lbs - shouldn't my 1/10 car weigh in at 280 lbs? That little car can't possibly ever weigh that much!

cyber,

you missed a dividing factor, because we are 1/10th scale in 3 dimensions.

10x10x10 so a 2.8 lb car would be 2.8 times 10 to the 3rd power to equal your 2800 lbs.

Welllll.....1/10 the length x 1/10 the width x 1/10 the height = 1/1000 the volume (or density or weight). So your 2800 pound car should weigh 2.8 pounds. Too much weed I guess.

no the area of the rc car is LxW and the penthagorean theorm is a2 + b2 =c2

so your weight of your car should be 3.1416.

pass the goochie on the left and side.

They are definitely not 1/10th of the length
Real cars are not roughly 9 feet long.

ummm yeah the wheelbases are...more like 14 feet in total length though...

1/10 car wheelbase (wheel center to wheel center) 10 inches or so...

97 Corvette wheelbase 98 inches....

So an average real car weighs about 3500lbs.

Hence scale is 3.5lbs = 56ozs which is 1oz above legal limit for ROAR

All that with a "scale" hp for nitro of 3hp, and 2800lbs. Scale "stuff" is nothing more than marketing. Scale Speed, made up to make an old RC Car that went 6mph seem fast...60mph scale speed.

There is nothing scale about speed or most of the physics of our cars, sure a "measurement" may be scale, but the last time I saw an 1/8-scale buggy or an off-road car with wheels sticking out a few feet...was never.

------

1/10 of 3500 is 350. 1/100th would be 35, 1/1000th would be 3.5lbs. So we're driving 1/1000 scale cars?

Just to prove your point even more, "scale" speed is complete BS, since they aren't scaling the time. You can't multiply only one side of an equation and say it's equal.

Scale Speed isn't/wasn't the issue of this thread...and there is NO such thing as "Scale Speed" , but moreso scale reaction to speed. If you were to actually be able to Scale Speed, you'd also have to scale gravity & air density.

As far as the Scale 'weights', what types of cars are you referring too?

A Nascar Cup car specs are

Weight: 3,400 pounds
Wheelbase: 110 inches

That would be a 3.4 lb car (1/10th scale...true weight) and the wheelbase would be 11.0 inches.

My Oval Pan car runs a 10.5 - 10.8" wheel base, but is closer to 44 ozs. which is what 2.75 lbs...which is closer to the weight of a short track late model like a ASA car.

TC's are quite heavy if that's what we're talking...

Remember scale is a rough term with R/C. As you have to accept the fact that if all things are truly scale then in real life the Mazda 6, Corvette, Ferarri 360 Modena, Nissan Skyline, Honda Accord, Dodge Stratus all have the same wheelbase which obviously they do not.

It is just a rough term.

The whole scale speed thing was first widely used back in the 70's to sell Hotwheel® cars which would go like 500 Scale mph!!
