Starter Touring Car
My boys have just started racing with me (ages 6 and 9) and I want to get them an entry level TC. The 3 that I am considering are the HPI E10, Tamiya TT-01 and the Trinity Spec. Any opinions? Am I missing one?

I am a newb as you would say to the hobby myself. I went with a Tamiya TT-01 base model and I wish I did my research and got the TT-01R model. The problem with the TT-01 is that you will have to hop-up the hell out of it to make it a racer since its not very tunable. I like my TT-01 even though I know I spent way to much money getting it to where it is but its going to be my training horse until I get my JRX-S Type R this summer.

I had a t-spec as my starter car it it was great. Until I started gaining more speed and started breaking stuff. The car is very durable and receptive to changes. The diffs in the car are not very good but you can use HPI Pro4 Diff guts to make them alot smoother. For kids just starting out I would go this route.

If you are considering a Tamiya, I would recommend the TA05, if you can get parts for it in your area. When my boys and I satarted racing a few years ago, we had a TA04, TB02 and a TA05. The 05 was by far the better performer out of the box, and is built like a tank. I still have one today and race it in stock - in the right hands (not mine) it competes with the higher end cars but is much cheaper to maintain. They respond well to tuning changes, and will allow to learn the finer points of car setup. There are also plenty of options available if and when you decide to decide to go for that extra performance.

You should take a good look at the Hotbodies CYCLONE 2. We run a spec race sereis based on this car. ITs a very competitive current chassis layout and will go from basher,spec racer to full out racer with just some minor tweeks. Priced very well too.
OF the 3 u listed only that tamiya model would even be close to race worthy, and i use that term loosely.

In time you can get it lighter and faster for very little money, been there and got the tshirt,lol

I'd suggest the TA05 or even TA05R as well. This car has proven that is can compete well with the higher end cars. Yes, it's more expensive than the other cars you're considering. However, in a year or two when your kids are better it will still be a good car. The others you mentioned probably won't be good for much besides bashing in a parking lot.

not a bad price! Also the cyclone is a car that they can grow with. It s very tunable and I think that given enough practivce they could get pretty fast. Good luck boys!
