Default DSM vs. FM - can you feel 5 milliseconds?

Need some of you who have switched to weigh in on this issue.

I feel better knowing someone isn't going to hijack my channel.

In all seriousness though the difference wasn't noticeable to me. The range seemed did seem less finicky, but that was about it for me.

Agreed! I just wonder why none (or very few) of the pros use DSM. The benefits seemed fairly obvious to me.

I think it has to deal more with sponsorship than it does with the actual product.

My DSM actually seems quicker than my FM radio.

DSM seems faster to me as well. My cars seem more reactive too.--Al

This is good news! I threw my hat in big time (4 cars) with DSM last year, went through the standard shut down issues on carpet ect. and got it resolved. Recently started to second guess my decision though, wondered if my lap times would improve with a traditional radio setup. Any thoughts on the new pro and mini's?

I haven't run the Pro version, but it is supposed to bridge the gap between FM/PCM and DSM. The response rates should be close to the same. I am not good enough to notice the difference. I do love the fact that I don't have to worry about getting a hit or a conflict. This winter season, I am going to go ahead and try the Pro version. I can't wait for Airtronics/Sanwa to come out with their own version though.

Thanks for your input guys! Looks like we'll all be sticking with DSM for now at least.

Todd Hodge posted in the Worlds race thread that he had some glitching and it stopped when he started using his DSM in Italy. I ran most of last year with the DSM and this season I have used the pro version and I have loved them both.

There's a lot of discussion about the SR3500 micro receiver and the Pro Series equipment in the last couple pages of the Spektrum thread. Here's the link for you:

Thanks for the link, interesting! I need to say that I have never experienced any problems with My Spektum systems other than possibly static discharge on carpet causing shut down. I followed the MFGs specs and re-routed the antenna wire in the case. I also bent my chassis antenna tube at 90 degrees keeping it inside the body.....problem solved, period. I'm thinking that the acid test for glitches, is going to be the IIC in a couple of months.

I switched to DSM a couple years ago when it first came out, using it in my M8. Other than the couple issues regarding low BEC current using high end servos and the QC2, I have not had any major issues. Only on rare occasion I get a small "glitch" at the indoor asphalt track I race at, and it seems to only happen one or two laps out of the whole night.

I now have the M11 with the pro version, but am still using the original non-pro receiver in my current touring car. The day I switched from the M8 with standard DSM to the M11 with Pro-DSM, I noticed a difference whether it was reaction speed or not. It seemed to respond a bit faster, or just had more steering. At any rate, I am satisfied with the equipments performace. Even if there is a delay, I have become accustomed to it, so it doesn't bother me at all. I run with all the top drivers, and I am always on pace.

I just ran the new micro receiver today for the first time and it was pretty good. I'm not going to say any better than the larger reciever, but it definitely gives you more room to work with on a tight chassis like rdx.

I have ran standard fm radio's for 15 years I didn't notice a thing as far as speed concerned I think some people hear something and then they believe it's true.My feelings are try it more then likely you won't go back to fm stuff again.
