Kentech mod has no screws in the motor mount so the flex point is more or less in the middle of the car

Smokem conversion has only 1 top deck screw in the motor mount at the front which moves the flex point forward, but also lets the top deck to flex freely above and behind the layshaft like yokomo/raceberry

Sepes conversion (like 417) can't do that configuration easily, either it will be just like kentechs mod with the flex completely in the center or it will be like a standard 417 with the rear end very stiff

The best of all worlds is the 418, it has a captured layshaft so you can run it like the yoke/RB but also has screw holes over the layshaft to stiffen up the rear end if the track demands that
For the Smokem - there are actually top deck screw holes on the motor/layshift mount so it is possible to stiffen up the rear if required.

One advantage of Smokem is that, if you have V5 bulkheads, then you don't need to add any shims under the topdeck. If you are running 417/417x bulkheads, then you need 1mm under but have the option to not add the shims and level the motor mount + screw to stiffen up.

The other advantage is that the original 417V5 bottom deck/belts can be used with the smokem.

Overall, I feel that the Smokem provides a more consistent drive/ more rear grip than stock with the same setting, someone us have therefore, changed our setup to give more steering.

I didn't realise that, the pre-prod version I have is a little different to the production one

The big advantage of the Sepes Conversion set is that all parts are could separately being used with the TRF417

One possible configuration is the use of the original motormount with center post and lifted (free from the centershaft holder) top deck.

Another configuration is the use of only the sepes motormount with the original TRF417 topdeck.

The lifted topdeck is tested with 1.5mm spacers under the bulkheads in combination with the original lower deck which gives the best flex properties.

Please note that the Sepesmotormount has a new design middle layshaft holder. Different from the original ‘open’ part the ‘closed’ designed of the bulkhead captures the layshaft bearing to allow to lift the upper deck in order to further adjust chassis flex and therefore the characteristic of the car.

Can you race stock (17.5 blinky) with the Sepes motor mount and no screws in the top deck other than the front and rear bulkheads?

Yes, with a chamfered front plate of the motor (like speedpassion) it should be possible. Which spur/pinion do you use?

Vincent also corrected me on 1 point.

If using TRF417x Bulk heads and want to use the two top deck holes, then the centre post of the smokem conversion cannot be used since it will sit too tall.

The other option is obviously to shim up the top deck + motor mount

For my 417 I used a 100t spur and 49t pinion for 17.5 blinky with my ORCA at about 3/4 advance timing and it was smooth and fast without the motor getting very hot.

Also I used a gear diff with 500k oil in the front sometimes if I found any corners too tight

If I run .5mm wheel spacers in front and 1mm in rear will that give me better turn in?

I ran the Smokem V7 conversion last night the biggest thing I noticed the car was real darty and hard to drive early in a run but it wouldn't over rotate as soon as the tire sauce wore off the car was great next time no sauce or just sauce the inside of the front tires. I was really happy how the car ran from 2 min into the race till the end it was fast qualified 2nd and was real happy with my car.

A little, it's more noticeable mid corner IMO

Has anyone put a gear ratio chart together for the raceberry conversion yet??
I do know that you can use your calculator but its better for me to look at a chart
Cheers

Make your own at http://www.tqrcracing.com/rc_tools/gearing.asp

1.85 is the internal ratio.
