Paint Question...
How does Andy get this deep blood red color? I know it must be a candy backed with gold metal flake, but its not Pactra candy red (thats too redish orange) and Pactra no longer makes the gold metalflake (at least according to the LHS). I was told at one time that it was vynal dye, but the only vynal dye I can find is not transparent and doesn't come out looking anything other than normal red paint. It can't be Parmas water based paint since its also not transparent and Andy has been using this color for at least 15 years. I don't see any Tamiya colors that seem to come close. Any help is appreciated now that Andys has closed up shop and moved to Trinity country.

That looks like a red pearl backed with a red/purple color. Parma paints will work, you just might have to mix colors to get what you want.

RacerX....it could be Automotive paint like PPG or DuPont. I have used some of this paint and there are way more colors to choose from. But it is expensive unless you are doing mass production like Andy's would be doing. I would say its a fair guess to say its Automotive finnishes that he is using on the custom colors.

RacerX....They have a flex agent that you can spray on first or some that you can mix into the paint. Next time your in a parking lot Kick a Saturn in the door and see if the paint comes flaking off . They use this flex agent for cars that are plastic like Saturns and on Bumpers too.
