I have been out of the stock motor class of a while now does anyone have tips hints or tricks the tweak the Co27 motor, it is going in a B4 buggy it that helps.

I am looking for what is a good brush, spring or anything done to the brushes to help the motor perform better.

if you are going to use that motor i would use f-brushes and red spring, break it in at 2.0v for 5min with a fan. also make sure the brush hoods are aligned and the bushing are seated correctly.

The F brushes makes great power but will only last about 2 runs. For this reason I would recommend Reedy 767 brushes.

Is there a differnt stock motor I should be looking at instead of of the CO27?

Many use 767 brushes for stock motors in off-road. Trinity Monster Stock is a good alternative to the Co27. schmidt, if you plan on racing at Trackside or ever head down there, they have Monster motors (unlabeled blanks) on sale for $21.

FWIW, I raced with a Co27 (purple on +, red on -) this past weekend at Trackside and the thing seized near the end of my main. Not the motors fault I'm guessing... not sure if it got hot or the brush got hung up, but the positive side brush (767) was dark and burnt looking. Negative brush looked great. Hopefully a new brush and comm cut will make it run again.

schmidt452-In buggy I like the following and use to tune motor's for a living.

The motor has more natural torque than a Monster in most cases but LESS drag brake.

For Big fast flowing tracks I like:
Reedy 767's and Red on +,Red or Green on -.
Being all motor's are different you can try both and see what you like.

If the track has some tight area's or maybe a jump right after coming out of a corner then I would definately go with Red,Red.
I almost NEVER run Purple Springs on a buggy motor.They are more suited for Sedan or sometimes the + side of the motor for truck.

***Important Note***=When comparing gearing with others see what springs they are using.Usually the LIGHTER spring setup is geared 1-2 teeth LOWER than a heavy spring setup.

You cant really go wrong with the X motor from Epic,C027 or the monster.
All good offroad motor's.

Wow now that is some usefull info right there, thanks! I was told the F brushes where the hot ticket, texracer do you have any experince with them, I picked up some of eack last night.

Those are the brushes I was refering to in my earlier post. They will make great power but only last two runs and seem to be harder on the comm too. I would use the 767 brushes instead. I too run Red +/Red - on my CO27 with Reedy 767 brushes and like the combo.

What do you guys think about trinity 4499's in the CO27. I just have a bunch of them around. Good points, bad points? I will be using it in an off road truck. Thanks.

They work well also but might require running one pinion size less due to making less torque.

I have run the CO27 with 767's, F's, and 4499's. All 3 brushes work very well. My personal preference is the 4499. It seems (for me) to make the most power while being a little easier on the comm than the other 2. I've also noticed that they run a little cooler, even when pulling a tall gear.

Great post,
My son and I have been racing Novice stock truck at SoCaL.
So I bought us each a Birdman Motor, Nice and Fast, no doubt. (P2K2)

My question is, at another $10-15 is the store bought tuning making much difference? After a dozen runs is what I mean. At that point am I right back to having a standard stock motor? Also, does a comm skim, and new brushes bring it right back to the "new" condition, or do I have to be a tuning pro?

I need more motors to keep a fresh motor around. What's the word?

sport10, muchomad- Thanks. I have been running the 4499's in my CO27's and they seem to work good. I haven't tried the 767's or the F brushes yet. Just thought I would check what other people think. Since I have a bunch of 4499's I will just keep using them.
