Yeah well it seams that the bj4 is pretty close to being the perfect offroad 4WD. The reign of the XXX4 is over, or is it, has losi been keeping a weapon under wraps, it sounds like losi are experimenting with dual belt drive with the concept raced at the worlds.

The car raced at the worlds by Losi was and is just that, a concept.
A production model will never see the light of day, and if it does I'll get rid of every Losi I own.
That car was designed for onroad and that is where it needs to stay.

It would never stand up to the abuse of the tracks in my part of this fine nation, loamy, rutted and blown out.
With the exposed belts and short arms that car would be a time bomb waiting to go off(in the trash can )

Imo, the BJ4 combined with some of the most talented drivers in the world has made it more competitive and not easy wins for TL. So they will need to improve their cars, even though they are still competitive, just not dominant any longer.

My ideas....

Carbon sheet(routed) material chassis upper and lower decks, the XX4 diffs, with one new outdrive made that is slightly longer for an offset of the diffs from chassis centerline. Approximately 5/32 to 1/4 inch of offset to allow for belt and pulley clearance only. Near center motor placement(front to back) or as close as possible offset to left, with batteries back in a saddle configuration. Spur mounted to rear of motor and spun by a counter gear system for proper gear reduction with smaller diff pulleys. Same arms and spindles, hubs, etc. and retain adjustable kick up, antisquat, inboard and out board toe, etc.

This car would use a molded front bulkhead and diff case to mount suspension and produce proper amount of kick up and more optimum diff placement. Also a molded rear diff case with adjustable diff case placement possiblity and optional rear belts.

Also removable 4 bolt(two upper and two lower) chassis stiffners(4 total) 2 front and 2 rear for chassis ridgidity tuning.

Well, if someday team associated would come out with a true 4wd 1/10 scale electric that would be great too. At $450 a pop and a super long wait list the bj4 is just a dream for alot of people and kind of rediculious. The BJ4 is nice but perfect I doubt it. Having some of the best drivers in the world run your car also makes quite a difference. I would think that losi would be combining the best attibutes of the xx-4 and the XXX-4 to make their next 4wd weapon. I have seen a car called the x-5 that combines the best of both of their cars. I think the xxx-4 is still an able contender to the bj4. Some people will like the xxx-4 and some will like the bj4. Neither will shed a much of a advantage to its driver over the other. In the end it is all up to the driver.

To all of the misinformed people in 4Wheel land. Here is a lesson.
BJ4-$450. Yep, it's true.
TL_ $380. Plus $70 for the alluminum mounts. Plus $45 for a one way.
Do the math. (no X-5 jokes here). They are about the same price, when set up equally. Just go buy your favorite. Shut up, and go to the track and try to whipp up on the other one.

The losi xxx-4 g+ kit goes for $329.99 at horizon hobby. That is a long way from 450.00. Also, you do not need the aluminum mounts for racing. Just the one way. So, looking at it this way:

XXX-4 g+
329.99 kit
45.00 one way

= 374.99

$450.00

That is 75.01 less and lets not even talk about availablity. The availablity of the BJ4 is redicious.

You need the aluminum mounts if you want to finish races.
$450 is more than I would spend on an electric kit but face it, for $450 you get a kit that needs a paintjob to be race ready (assuming you get a kit with the new front arms) and is as durable if not more durable than any other 4wd car on the track. Any part on the car that can be broken is readily available on the associated parts wall.
The Bj4 is much easier to work on from what I can see too. I'm not bashing the XXX4, it was the best and only 4wd car out there for a long time. It's up to Losi to decide if they want to stay on top now.

Yea, I know about the weakness issue with the Losi one-way but that is not the only one available for the car. I cannot remember who makes the other one. Either way both cars are competetive when properly setup and neither one will make an rookie a pro driver. That takes practice and skill. So if you can justify the high price and long wait in your mind go for it it. Im sure its a great car.

It wouldn't be too much fun, but it looks as if the undertray would be optional (like the MRC buggy), and if you wanted, you could probably just cut under the battery tray so it can be removed. It does keep a lot of dirt out of the car though, especially on a track similar to mine.

Could also fasten the undertray with velcro to the upper half of the body with the body being secured with posts.

But in my opinion, the JRX4 proto type would only work its best on a super smooth track.
