Works good, BUT you need a Booster or LiPo Receiver Battery, in which case you may need a Receiver Battery Regulator to keep the pack voltage at 6.0v to prevent toasting your receiver if it can't handle it.

We have found it has quite a lot of punch (usually due to the lower gearing) then along the straight you can sometimes hear the motor beginning to scream.

Try gearing down very slightly and see if it makes a difference. If you can't really tell any difference between 6 & 7 or 8 something is wrong.

What ESC were you using before and what gearign with it on the same motor?

Skiddins
Thanks for the reply.

I switched from a TC Spec. I was gearing between 4.7-4.9 with the TC.

I did not notice any additional punch with the SPX, but I did notice the top end power surge.

I could not tell any difference between profile 7 & 8 but there was a great improvement going from profile 6 to 7.

I used to run 4.97 at my track with the TC version, I dropped to 5.35 which helped.
Due to a change in pulleys (not spurs etc) I then went down to 5.45 which was great, I will be trying 5.55 this weekend.

The fact that your temps are OK is a good sign, but I would try dropping a pinion anyway and see what happens, if your temps are fine they shouldn't vary that much with the change and you may find you get even more grunt. if it seems better and temps are still Ok, go down another...repeat until missile status is achieved

Ordered one of these today with a new X11 10.5. Is the general consensus that you drop around 4 teeth when starting to use one of these speedo's with profile 7 and 8 instead of a Tc spec? I don't want to mess with Timing on the motor at all and i need good brakes for a large outdoor track with low traction. Cheers benzaah

I've recently decided to run a 17.5 TC class for more track time and found the speed to be less than exhilarating, so I ended up replacing my back up three year old GTB with the SPX. I just did some initial testing in a parking lot today and I was surprised with the speed. This seems like it will make 17.5 more enjoyable!

For today, I went straight to profile 8 and geared my SP 17.5 Ultra Sportsman at 3.95. I was coming off the track after 6 minutes at 135-145 F at 3.73 FDR with the GTB; I'm thinking that I might have to go to 4.1 FDR or so to keep the temps down with the SPX. I can't wait to test at the track .

I'm starting to get really frustrated with LRP. I sent my SPX to them over 2 months ago for repair/replacement, and the SPX has been out of stock the entire time. I've called a few times over the last 2 months and they have no idea if it will be another week or another year until they come in again

What ratio are you guys running with spx and a 10.5 on med sized track?

Also what motor brand seems to be working good with this speedo 13.5 and 10.5?

Thanks

Well I almost never make a post like this, but hear I go.

After two weekends with this two of these ESC's I am quite let down. I switched from the TC spec and after trying absolutely every gearing and timing combo I can come up with I have yet to find this ESC to provide any additional performance. I have ran it in 17.5 and 13.5 TC. I won both last weekend and this weekend. But there were still guys with regular spheres and the trusty TC spec with more rip and top speed on the straight. If I had'nt been better in throught the turns I wold have been screwed. Im running the same 40C packs I ran with my TC Spec but for some reason the SPX just aint getting it done for me. This weekend was the first time I have ever felt out-motored in 13.5.

Im not hating on the ESC, nor do it wish to discourage anyone from trying one. So, I guess Im just venting. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

I hear you.

Lack of torque but good top end.

I am running mine in offroad 2wd buggy now and I must say I feel it is better suited to this for my needs.

With a 13.5, have you tried profile 7/8 with a FDR around 6? I had to gear down quite a bit to get the torque back.

I have ran it in both #7 and #8 geared from 5.0 - 5.8

Today I ran mainly around 5.5 on #8. The track is fast and flowing. The straight is 140 feet. Air temps were in the mid 90's with track temps at 140.

With a Novak the temps were only around 135. With a Hacker it was 160.
