Smile Need a setup for TA-04R

Howdy folks,

a buddy of mine just started RC cars... actually he started again since he owned a couple of offroaders a few yeras ago. But anyways, he bought a TA-04R. I advised him not to, but still he did it... Anyways... once he had a few runs on it, I put it on the Hudy bench, adjusted everything symmetrical, dialed 1deg camber front 2 deg rear, 1.5 or 2 mm of droop everywhere, 5mm ride height, 1 deg toe out on front... much better than the floating assymmetrical setup he had before, but the car is still not what I'd like it to. It's very unpredictible and is not as fast as what I'd think it could reach. Corner speed is nil, it spins out either off or on power.

I know the TA04 is no FT TC3 or a T1, but still it should be able to perform better, since it is a rather nice design overall (although too much soft plastics and play for my taste), and shares a lot with the 414. However I barely have enough time to set-up my own car right, let alone spend time on his, which I have no clue about... Can anybody give a good overall starting point for that car with rubbers, on concrete? I'm especially looking for shock setup, since geometry is pretty much the same on all cars (see above).

thx a lot!

later

What type of track do you race on?? Does he have the right tires? I started with 60 weight oil, stock pistons, and for springs try white/blue Tamiya springs......

BTW: watch out the 04R is a sleeper, he get's that thing dialed and so long Losi and associated boys!!!!!!!! You won't know it until you can't catch it with the lil' FT car......

I'm trying to figure out a set up for my 414 as well as my TA04 Pro on concrete. The problem I think is more with the surface and no traction. I'll be happy to let you know what I find out. You aren't racing in Rock Hill SC by any chance are you?

You can find ta04pro settings at http://www.tamiya.nl - adapt 'em for your 04R.
