I have always found the Integy chargers to be durable and cheap to upgrade.
The basic difference between the 16x3 & 16x4:
16x3 has higher charge amp (6.5 vs 5.5)
16x4 has higher cell charge count (15 vs 8)
The 16x4 is great if you need to be able to charge single cells or starter box batteries. The 16x3 is slighly cheaper and would work great if all you need to do is charge rx or electric 4-8 cell packs.
I think the 16x3 v2.5 has more charging profiles than the 16x4 too.

I just bought the Integy 16X4. I read the instructions all the way through, but I don't understand the difference of the modes it offers.
Mode 1 = VESC Repeak
Mode 2 = VESC Coldstart Charge
Mode 3 = Discharge 4 amps
Mode 4 = MEMORY ERASER
First of all, what is te difference between mode 2 and 3. And what one should I use when I want to just charge my Ni-MH pack for a race? Also, in mode 3, when I discharge the pack, when it is done it beeps one time, and then the light for "slow charge" goes on. Should I leave it on until the "slow charge" light goes off?

Use Mode 2 to charge the pack normally
Use Mode 1 just before using the battery to 'top it off'
Mode 3 - pull batteries off once unit switches to slow charge.
Don't let NiMH batteries slow charge. Slow charge = higher IR = Slower Discharge = Slower Car = buy new batteries.

that is stupid that is switches to slow charge once the pack has discharged.

The problem with mode 2 is that it discharges the battery first, then starts the full charge! I just want to connect the battery and hit the button to full charge.

Integy 16x4 Pro
I hate to bring this old thread up but it has relevence to my question. I just recently purchased a used Integy 16x4 Pro. The guy I bought it from told me that I use the alligator clips to charge up the batteries. My question is, what is the tamiya connector for in the rear? Is that also for charging up batteries or is it for connecting the charger to a DC powersource if needed?
Another question, when the charger is done charging a NIMH pack in Mode 2, does it stop charging altogether or go into a trickle charge? I read somewhere that it's not good to trickle charge a NIMH pack. Thanks...

Another question. When I charge my packs with this, I just clip the battery to it, right? Should I remove my deans connectors when I charge the batteries?
Should I make a deans male connector with a pigtail that plugs into the charger and then use that to plug into my battery packs?
On the same note, when batteries are stored, should the connectors be removed? I onlu have 2 matched packs right now and the rest stick. I just leave the connectors on the matched packs when I store them.

Thanks for the help. It looks as though I'll be returning this charger to the previous owner or chucking it out the window.
The first pack I tried charging seemed to go ok. It went through the discharging stage then it started discharging. The charger only charged it to the capacity of 900+??? Was it a false peak? I'm sure it isn't the pack.
I tried charing GP3300 pack #2 and I had worse results. The charger started to smoke 2 mins into the discharge stage. I unplugged the charger. I tried the charger again a bit later and now it is continuously in a slow charge state and will not respond to me pressing the start button.
In case the seller doesn't take the charger back, will Integy let me upgrade to a more expensive unit using a dead one? Or, how much will something like this cost to repair? Thanks...
