by the way, im more on the side of going lipo then u may think,,, but change is hard to intigrate into a club that is all using nihm.... Baby steps....

I am very intrigued by the idea of one pack taped in once and run all day long... rechargin between runs.. that is the most intresing aspec of lipo for me, and longer life of the pack vs nihm that drop off quickly

There will be no Voodoo with LiPo. I have been using two Orion packs for the whole season (one per car) and there has been ZERO drop in performance. The Orion PE is the most expensive car based lipo pack at ~$140 and that price it is DIRT CHEAP relative to a case of nimh batteries that are junk in 3 months. Not ROAR legal? Don't race at ROAR races...

LI-PO VOODOO MAINTENANCE TECHNIQUE`s

Charge it ....
Race it ...
Charge it ....
Race it .....
Charge it ....
Race it .....

I love My Carbon`s ....

Why even try to debate which battery is better, its quite obvious which one is best for our sport...

A 3200 LiP0 will give about the same maybe slightly less maybe more depending on application then a 4200 NiMH @ 1C they will take roughly 80 min. to charge from a dumped pack.

Ive been racing for about a year, and I have seen lots of Lipos on the track....... The only battery I have ever seen catch on fire or explode in my entire racing career was an IB4200!!!! BOOM!!!!

I have flown airplanes for a few years now with lipos, and have to disagree with a couple of points.

"There's no Voodoo with Lipo's"......the heck there isn't. I can change the discharge characteristics of a fully charged pack very easliy. Just takes a little time. Doesn't involve charging or discharging. I'll prep your pack and mine. Wanna race? This point is so naive.

"Lipo's last 100 times longer than NiMh". Not in my experience with two different brands of Lipo's. One brand outlasts the other, but the shorter lived brand has more power when new. Both brands 'felt' great new, not so great after 40 cycles or so. Both brands I have used are very well respected in the RC airplane world, not some newcomer off brand. I am quite dissapointed with one brand, as all the packs I have owned from them had short lives.

Steady boy`s
this thread is turning in to a LIPO vs NIMH thread ,we have enough of these on here allready

miamifanatic
only asked what to expect from lipo

on track using orion 4800/3200 against a IB 4200 in 27t they are really quite close in performance , much closer then say 13.5 brushless vs brushed 27t

both got there advantages @ certian times on track ,c-cells at the start .lipo orion from middle to end

money & track TIME is where you gain shed loads
you only need 1 pk in lipo & 1 charger vs 4 + c-cell pk & charger & discharger & equaliser

race-topup-race topup-race-topup it is really is that simple
i have a balencer now for my 4800 orion where it went soft after quite a bit of racing ,it is showing one of the cells to be out & not happy ,going back to LHS to sort it out with the very experienced airplane/copter guys in using lipo`s

by the way all the accidents they have with lipo`s going poof is cause the tin foil wrap gets punctured ,nothing to do with charging or discharging

it will take a age to get the lipo approved across the board in the UK as the people in power are pulling in different dirictions

saddles
well i have a old FK04 & a carbon 3200 fits in there nice held in with Tamiya F1 holders so it sit`s across the chassis

No not yet we just started to approve 2C charging on our 3200 and 4800 Packs.

But 3C could come in the future.
