I have been using some garage flooring called Flexitile. I think the website is reflexmouldings.com or something like that. 2 tiles is about 40 inches wide and and I have some edging that snaps on the front. Lowes used to have it but the stores in KC have switched to lower quality Chinese stuff called Nova Flex. The Nova Flex stuff is more plasticy and the texture is smoother.

I use a big white towel. Yes it gets dirty, but then again I can find any screw I drop on it.

I use a rubber floor mat that wall-e-world sales, found it in the auto section. Its not a up-grade mat but does the job.

Been doing this for 9 years and never used one. Sorry if that didnt answer your question. But why do you need a pit mat? After my day is over I spray my table down with some Simple Green, then spray it down with water and ready for next week.

It depends on what surface I am working on. In my apartment I use the mats to protect the surfaces I am working on, whether it be a glass table or a countertop. At the track the tables are wood and kind of weathered and towels blow around and get snagged on parts and tools. I know when I clean my work mats they are clean of all dust, so if I need to tear down an engine the parts wont get contaminated. I try not to do this at the track, but If I need to I know I will have a clean surface to work on... The reason I don't like the upgrade mats is how many bumps and crevices they have, it makes cleaning more difficult. I prefer to have a nice smooth surface. The mats I have actuall have a coin surface but the edges are rounded so they are still easy to clean.
