Default Picco .12 JL Red Dot & 30%

so, fellas, whats the deal: can i run 30% through my JL Red Dot? I have heard things about needing to shim out engines when running high % nitro and frankly i dont know what it really means. i guess bottom line is, will i need to do anything to my box stock never been fired Picco .12 JL Red Dot? thanks!

ia m sure you probably could but i dont think you want to.. i would think that the high nitro percentage would be hard on that little motor

From what I have seen & read I think it will be ok as the .21's need a head shim for the higher nitro content, IT WILL be harder on this motor with 30% and will wear it out faster, as for it being brand new, break it in like all the rest of your motors is this going in your crt.5???

it's shimmed for 30% and if you run 25% it still won't hurt the engine, I've made the change from 30 to 25 and run fine.

i see your an ofna tech, so you clearly know whats going on with the shimming. why did you go from 30% to 25%? also, i dont have the engine with me, or even in the same state as me, so maybe you know. the picco that came with the Pro-E kit i bought has a red head, is it still a JL red dot? were the kits shipped with any engine other than a JL red dot?

the Jammin car does not come with a Jl but it is a 3 port, standard glow plug engine which still has enough power for the car, it has the torque like the JL but looses a few rpms down the straight (and I'm talking about a long straight)as for fuel I use 25% beacuase when they had the fuel shortage during to Olympics it looked like they only going to offer 25 and 20 so I went down and adjusted to the fuel but I can't see where I'm loosing anything when I changed.

I would see the changes more for On-road then Off-road.

Personally I run 20 % in my picco 3 port, and temps around 230-250 and I have no issues keeping up with the 1/8 buggies down a 150 straight away, so if this little motor was giving up any rpm's, that red dot must be a rocket ship, as I am looking for an 18tz and see if it will keep up with the truggy's, oh yea as for a glow plug I run the o.s. a-5

I like to play with the buggies, a good game of cat and mouse as you catch them and pass them, then wait for them to catch up again
