Just a few shots to show what a Losi 8ight looks like after a short run. As seen with a Thermal Imager. First pic not running just as I pulled it out. Glow plug temp 155.7 °F header temp 295.7 °F. Stock Mach 427 Nova RC cooling head run at around front yard for a few minutes with ambient air temp of 77 °F. Will take it to the local track and shoot it again.

Looks very interesting. The cluchbell temp looks like it gets pretty hot. I'm not sure if I'm reading it correctly but... is the top of the engine head cooler than the receiver and battery boxes?

Is this thermal imager commercially available? How much does one of those cost?

Thats pretty cool. I wonder if that could be useful for something like touring car, to check how hot the tires are getting, and how the heat is distributed.

Chuck has used this on my BJ4 and it is insane....

He can with one shot pin point some insane amount spots on anyone shot.


From what i can remember it is like 16,000 and you thought a extengen was costly

Yep that is his car after running in the yard for a few minutes. I will take it to the track the next time we go to see the whole picture (clutch bell, servos, head, crankcase, brake pads etc.)

You can use it on anything that heats or cools. From one picture there are over 19,000 locations that a temperature can be drawn from with a range of -10 to +1650 ° F. Heat distribution not a problem the imager will show it all.

Yes, you are reading it correctly. I was unable to get it up to full operating temps. Next time we run it at the track I will take all kinds of pics to see what is going on.

Just out of curiosity, what do you use this thermal imager for? I assume you don’t just have a $16K tool for playing around with.

Fire Departments use thise cameras a lot. I work at a power plant and we hire a guy to come out several times a year to look for hot spots on our boilers. It's awesome going around with him and learning about it.

My neighbor is a fire fighter and he showed me one of these once.....They use them to see through walls and find hot spots.....

We pointed it at his house and could see the stove in his kitchen and also see his hot wife!!!! LOL


But I never thought about the usage in RC
