+1 to that. All trucks break and I had driven most of them. The Mugen handled. Very nice but I was always breaking an arm. Serpent or losi. I'm diving the serpent cars right now

If you want a rock soild truggy go Xray..they arnt outdated and once set up right the are very easy to handle and drive consistantly, you just need to spend time to get the shocks set up right and once that is sorted you will be happy as.
As for the diffs the XT8 diffs are awesome, they went back to the xt8 design in the xray buggies as it was bullet proof just need to make sure you check the rear diff every 3-4 meetings as that is the one that may need shimming but most other brands need even more regular shimming in all there diffs.

Xt8 all the way. Had 2 08's and 2 09's. No issues with any. They r all still being used to this day.

Serpent and losi .. tho u need to chagne the losi front center drive shaft pin according to wear. A year gone not a single arm broken on my losi.

Thanks guys, with everyone's help I've narrowed it down to either serpent, X-ray, losi, kyosho, or hot bodies....hahaha...this is hard!

Associated is just as durable compared to those as well...they all have their little quirks.

It's really about whats being run in your area and supported, or what does your gut tell you to like the best?

If the D8T doesn't need many hopups (I don't know), it would be very hard to beat for the price.

I'm in the same boat, looking to pick up a my first truggy. Don't know which one, there is so much choice out there right now in the 1/8th off-road market. Seems like there is a new buggy or truggy being released every week.

You should also check out the Team C T8T. The buggy is very good so I'm thinking their truggy would be pretty close to it.

serpent for me.. i full year of racing and only 2 dnf's to speak of.. one was a diff bearing and the other was a tie rod end that i got hit mid air by a lapper and broke.. very strong and durable.. serpent. ae. kyosho. mugen and losi would be my order if i was looking.. jeremy

And if cost is an issue go with a D8T...people who suffered lost cvd pins faioled to vclean them prior to assembly with brakeclean to get the oils off. Do this then use the loctite...let it dry over night then lube. NO other problems other than that.

Also the Xray and K trucks are durable but IMO not as much as the first two...- from what i have seen - with no bias...

I looked at changing brands acouple of months ago but stayed with associated.I
was running the FT and the CE RC8T. tough as an old boot handles well and parts are well priced. Mate has been running the Xray. Handles really well and looks to be a very tough rig. The only issue he has had is the pins walking on the rear CVD which was more of a assemly issue. As stated the mugens handles really well but have a fragile front end. A couple of mates ran the losi,s for a while but got sick of repairing the diffs.
