There are three of us at our local track running the monster with the XXX-S. We are all geared almost identical. 118/27. The motor comes off the track at around 170 degrees. But my motor is geared at 118/30 and comes off the track at 140 degrees. Has anyone seen any of these motors with this big a temp difference?

Contact: They are just thinking about their tiny wee tracks and never take any notice of what the rest of the world is doing. I ran my car at 7.2 on a average/tight track last week and the car was about the same speed as anyone else. And got extremely hot. Was easy on batteries though with 1200mah left.

Finally got a Trinity MHS and put it on our little Indi Motor Dyno (good for rpm testing at 4 volts). Got 18,500-19,000 with factory brushes and springs. Installed a pair of Fantom 315 brushes (same springs) and got 20,500 rpm. I've always liked these brushes, although I do want to try the higher silver Trinity ones.

what should I do my gearing at for a carpet track fairly tight infield with a 80ft (maybe a little more) back straight...we have med to high bite track..I am using 24mm foams on a Schumacher Axis 2 with a tranny ratio of 2:1...right at the moment I am running my tunned P2K at 27/85 (48 pitch) (6.30 is what my ratio chart says) and it is working great ..I am one of the fastest cars there and believe me it is the car and not the driver..I started only 6 months ago.....please help..I have seen one of these monsters blow by other fast cars and I want to make mine just as fast...

It would be easier to tell me in pinnion/spur sizes but whatever is easiest for you guys thanx

Gear down more. I find the monster is fastest when the motor stays cool. I have the speed on the straight to keep up with the TQ just not the driving ability. My monsters come off the track after 5 minutes not even warm. I'm running an 8.23 final drive on an Xray.

Your track sounds about the same size as our outdoor asphalt track. Try the equivilant of 3-4 pinion teeth SMALLER on your final drive ratio to start. Then adjust in smaller steps until you find the best gearing. For a small/average size track, this will be in the 7.5 to 8.0 range more or less. This motor is happiest when it revs.

Both the P2K2's that I've owned were DOGS. I know that many other people have been completely happy with them. My Monster Stocks have been great. NO complaints.

i was racing with p2k's and p2k2's. probably some of the hottest ones around? any track i have been on there is no one that can touch me in the straights, even at nationals. (now, everywhere else on the track is another story! LOL but that has nothing to do with motors! )
but i tried a friends monster and now i own three of them and my other motors are on ebay if that tells you anything!!

I just purchased one not too long ago, haven't put it in my car yet. I'll be checking the hood alignment first, truing the comm. Are you guys using the brush/spring combo that comes with the motor?

would running the 4080 brushes be bad for the monster? they are hard serrated with a vertical slot.

Good question. I'm just trying to see what others are doing and what works for them.

Has anyone considered the fact that the Monster motor has really strong magnets, and when you keep gearing it down, it gives you tons of drag break.

I understand why your gearing them so low, I have one, but everytime I get into the area where its really fast on the straight, my infield gets kinda twitchy because of the break situation.
