The starter shaft doesn't move at all when I move the flywheel. I can hold the starter shaft still in one hand while I turn the flywheel. Shouldn't these two turn together? When I turn the starter shaft, there is no resistance. Shouldn't it be trying to move the piston and start the motor?

Yes it should. You need to either take it to the hobby shop, or take the assembly off the side of the motor to see what the problem is. I'd look for a manual online too if you don't have one.

Ok.. I think I have it figured out, but don't know how I'm going to fix it until I get to the hobby shop of call OFNA tomorrow. I took off the plate on the back of the motor itself. There's a tiny pin that is supposed to sit in the hole at the bottom of the crank shaft. The inside of that starter plate is grooved out, like a one way slide to catch the pin and turn the piston. The pin is entirely too short and will not catch. WTF.

Pull the pin out and see if the little spring behind it broke. There's supposed to be a spring that pushes the pin out. A dental pick or something similar works good to pull it out.

I didn't see a spring... let me take it apart again and look at it, you've been a big help.

Looks like that was the problem, a coil and a half of the spring was broken off. I gently stretched the rest of the spring to accomodate for the broken peice. Let's see what happens. Thanks a ton!

No dice.... need to try and stretch the spring more.

Did you find the broken coil inside the crank pin hole? Hope it isn't floating around your motor anywhere. Hobby shop should be able to get you a new spring in a couple of days. Probably be your best bet.

Stretched out the spring a good bit... it worked, excellent. I'm still going to have Ofna send me a new spring or 2... don't know why it broke in 3 peces.
