Spec-R R1
#2686
the posts are the same size on the S1 and R1 and they are not under the kind of load where they would break......If I was spec-r I wouldn't think anyone would ever need a new set

rtenzo02, I found the pair of S1 steering posts. They are indeed black and steel as compared to the red aluminum R1 versions. If you want them, I can send them to you. Pm me your addy and I'll get them in the mail tomorrow.

I did attempt (DBM), lol, couldnt pick them out of all those parts, no worries , if you do find a extra set I would appreciate them, if you don't , I still appreciate your will to help a guy out ! (Stevem) Thats what I kinda figure as well but some kinda description would be nice instead of having to find out the hard way. This is what I have so far, first time Ive built a car, only other car I have owned is a tamiya TL01 my uncle gave me around 1998, still own it , bashed it around all these years !

I have the steering posts packed up and ready to send. I'm heading out for a couple of friday beer at 430, so I'll stop by the post office on the way and drop them off. I'll send you tracking info when that's done.

I had the spec-r aluminum center pulley in my cart at tqrc but it went out of stock before I could order it.....what timing! Haha. So I was thinking about ordering the TOP Photon aluminum center pulley from rc mushroom instead. According to a post on page 11 of this thread, it fits. I actually like the design of the photo part better, too.
Since our track is very tight, I was thinking of going with a front gear diff with 300,000 fluid. Is this a good idea? Or should I stick with the spool? I was experiencing corner entry understeer at the last practice day, and was thinking that a front diff would help correct it.
Also, my car was pretty loose on corner exit when on throttle. I moved the rear upper shock mounts in two holes, and it helped, but not enough, and it made the corner entry understeer worse. I'm running 2 degrees of rear toe-in. Changing it to 3 degrees should help rear stability on corner exit when on-throttle, but I'm not a big fan of the idea of running so much rear toe. Lots of scrubbing and friction created that way with the rear tires fighting each other.

Just for the other side of the coin, I run a spool, tried a front gear diff on the same track as MRJ, on a good night I can keep with him, it comes down to driving style, I find I'm slower with a front diff, MRJ finds he's slower with the spool.
I find if you're driving with a spool front, you need to drive it like a FWD car, slow entry speed, 'lag' the throttle to the apex, then gradually accelerate out, with the front diff, it appears you chuck the car in under full brakes, turn it through the apex, then accelerate out under full throttle, you still get the car through the corner at about the same pace (though that's where I usually gain some ground), just the way you go through is different, the car setup is slightly different.

Anyone know if this will fit the R1/S1?
http://www.tqrcracing.com/shop/produ....asp?p_id=6978
I realize that its tooth count is 19 instead of 20 so will change the internal ratio. I suppose all that really matters is the inside diameter of the bearings.

The 300000 oil I use gives the best of both worlds. It is locked enough to act like a spool but has a little give in it that stops the front end chatter on lock.
The spool setup takes more finesse to get right and I just don't have it yet. I blame my radio as it doesn't respond quick enough to use the spool properly. The diff front allows a little give in my driving style

Thank you for your thoughts on the front diff vs spool Oldfart and mrjudd. I think I will try the front diff with 300k fluid. Wouldn't you know, tqrc is out of stock of 300k fluid. Being in Canada, every time I order, I pay $30-$50 in shipping, so I try to order everything from one vendor to reduce shipping costs. Looks like I'll be ordering from two different places again...doh!
Mrjudd, what radio are you using? I have been using a cheap Turnigy 3xs, but just ordered a Spektrum DX4S yesterday. I felt the cheap radio was creating some issues. I realize there is a love/hate thing for Spektrum, but I have a bunch of Spektrum receivers already, so I thought I'd stick with the brand.

I ordered a handful of things from Great Hobbies a couple of weeks ago. Nice to have a Canadian option, although their prices and stock leave a bit to be desired. For example, it is cheaper for me to buy my VTA wheels/tires from tower/amain/tq and pay the extra shipping. GH only had the 5 spoke vta wheels, too. Minor, I know. I also bought a set of nut drivers from GH that were listed as being in stock, but then I got an email stating that they were out of stock, which delayed my shipment. Not a big deal though.
As for the 300k diff oil being out of stock at TQ, I think I'll try the 500k, and if it doesn't seem to help much over the spool, I can always buy the 300k oil in the future once it is back in stock. In a pinch, I could try watering down the 500k oil with a drop of 1200 oil from the rear diff. :P
