That motor sounds like the Binary 2-based motor...

Default PUTNAM BRUSHES / SPRINGS QUESTION

Hi Tod.
I have a question for Tod or any one who can answer. I have some of your blue/green brushes. I was wondering why you put a hole in the face and file the trailing edge and not just run them full face ? Do you do this for all tracks i.e carpet / tarmack racing. Also i read on this forum that a light spring like green on + and green on - would give more bottom end and running stiff purple springs would give more rpm. Im not sure how running stiff springs can give more rpm when in effect they are acting like a hand brake on the com ? on the flip side of this how can running green springs give more bottom end when the light springs are allowing the armiture to spin more freely. I have been playing with different spring combos but cant come to any conclusions.
Lastly im running a co27 with putnam brushes with the holes in on carpet track using rubber tires, lap times about 14-15 seconds what spring combo and a starting point for gearing. sorry for all the questions any advise would be very helpfull

Rapid,
Removing material from the center of the brush (vertical slot or cavity) increases the pressure applied to the leading and trailing edges, which improves commutation and reduces arcing. Removing material from the trailing edges increases torque as well as increasing RPM as well. The downside is that the less surface area you have, the less material you have to dissipate heat and the more the motor will want to freewheel off power.

Your thoughts are correct-lighter springs increase top end, heavier springs increase bottom end. There is a contradictory misconception I have seen posted by others as well...but they are incorrect.

For rubber tire, start with about a 1.08 - 1.12 rollout with the CO27, then trial and error. There are far too many variables to pick an exact gear, but that should get you close.

LMK if you have any questions-

Thanks!

Thanks Tag-

bman: Brushless motors have been released and have already won National titles. Nitro cars have been released last November, and also won a National as well.
We are working on an entirely new website that will launch in the near future- stay tuned.

Default Australian National Champs...Again!

We would like to congratulate "The Thunder From Down Under" Andrew Giddings for TQ'ing and Winning at the Australian Off Road Nationals!!!

Andrew qualified 3rd in 4WD Stock, went on to claim the National Championship, by winning the first two A-Mains- and he got to watch the third A-Main as National Champ!

Andrew was also tied for TQ in 2WD Stock, and finished on the podium with a 3rd place finish.

Andrew utilized Putnam Propulsion CO27's in both classes.

Congratulations Andrew...Excellent job!!!
