it does look like the original rs4 - but the front gear box is throwing me, I don't think the original RS4 has a gearbox like that in the front. and some of the plastics don't look like what HPI used at the time

either way, the battery tray is bastardized - part axial, part something else

Doesn't look like an HPI at all. The HPI RS4 sedans are all dual belt.

The exact model name escapes me but I'm pretty sure it is from CEN Racing. It should be the electric equivalent of their nitro GX-1 model. It was in the late 90's, will try to check some old RC mags for more info.

the first rs4 had a 3 gear transmission in the back and a belt to the front RS4 PRO was the first with 2 belts.

Actually it appears the motor and belt are on the wrong side, not sure...

It does resemble the style of an original RS. The RS4 had dual belts where the RS had a rear tranny and a front belt. If it is a RS that front tranny should be just a cover for the front diff. It would say HPI on that cover. Also the axles on the RS disassemble to where you can pull a spacer and cut the lower arms to make it a 1900mm from it being a 200mm. With that said that tranny looks a bit bulky where the RS tranny was more defined like a old AE stealth tranny. If you can post a brighter picture to see the chassis a bit more it would help.

Upon further looking at the pictures not too sure what it is but an HPI RS it is not. Very sure of that!

I was referencing the CEN car, not the HPI.

I thought TA04 at first, but that's not it either. Nice first pic, though not RC related

Wow every TC had that layout at one time. Xray T1 was probably the most advanced version.
