I think there is a lot more to it, beside who makes them. There are issues with testing and QA. I am sure all the batteries are produced by the same process, but not all of them can achieve 50C. You need to sort them out, and get the best quality.

Linger's excellent thread on LiPo fires goes into some detail on the kinds of things that differentiate cell quality between brands. Ling is ROAR's LiPo guru.

http://www.rctech.net/forum/electric...res-101-a.html

My SMC 40C packs have been great, but one of them did swell a little. I picked up a 50C for Vegas, and the case seems like it's a little bit ill-fitting. The top half seems smaller than the bottom, or something. It's pretty minor though, and their packs always deliver on the track. Plus, SMC isn't dumb about the balancing tap, they put it out the same side as the power, which is a no-brainer. Having wires coming out of both corners sucks for touring cars.

I don't know who makes SMC's cells, but I don't care to be honest, they've been spectacular since the 28C red packs. I've read TP uses Enertech for their 40C cells. I think their cases are made by Cracker Jack.

"made in china"....... Could never have guessed

I'm sure the battery will be fine but for over $160 I would have thought it would be built properly
Not sure why your case would be like that. I just got my new 2S and 1S packs and the case is different than before and are much more secure than some of the previous packs I have had (although NONE have every come apart like another popular manufacture). I do know they have been trying some different glues and such to make the cases as durable as possible for some of the guys running them in offroad and such.

Let us know how they run and see ya in Vegas!

You wont get that information from SMC I know. Not sure about TP if they release their info or not. But the manufacture for SMC does not make any other RC related Lipos for any other company. SMC exclusive.
