This weekend at the Halloween Classic I will be running 13.5 (ion4) TC. What rotor would you use and a starting FDR & timing please. I think the straight is 80-90 feet long. Usually they have a very flowing layout also.
Also, I tried mod TC this weekend in Toledo. Smaller tight track with an ion4 5.5. The motor temp was high (170-180) compared to other motors of the same turn being ran. My FDR was around an 8, timing at 0 mark. I also tried it in blinky, boost, and played with misc ESC settings. I am new to trying mod, so I am sure I was too heavy on the brakes and not smooth at all. Any ideas, or was my FDR off?

Yeah, a few places do which I think is kind of retarded.. If they don't like the motor because it's too fast: suck it up, lose some of that 'Brand Pride,' and buy the motor yourself Look at drag racing, the other companies weren't banning the use of the Hemi, they were creating their own variants of it!

I still run a D3.5 (non-Fantom) on the local offroad track and it's great. But, I think I'll be going with Fantom motors from now on, great service and great motors, who could want more?
Unfortunately our VTA class is still sticking to VTA rules, so Novak for all. I'd like to meet the business genius at Novak who got that deal signed, talk about a forced monopoly.

What is an ideal coil resistance for a 17.5 stator? Both Ion4 and Apex2. I know they need to be close to each other, but what is considered "good"?

I'm sure they show a difference on the dyno, but I doubt you would notice anything on the track. A higher resistance stator is going to like a little more timing, however.

I'm relatively new to mod as well. I have been told by the fast mod guys at my track that running a 4.5/5.5 should start around 8.5-9.0. I would think if its a tight track I would stay on the high end of that fdr. Our track is 96x40 and my 4.5 was geared at 8.8 and was coming off at 120*.
I just picked up an orca 4.5 so I'll probably gear around 8.5.

The best #s I have ever heard of from our 3 MMSs have been high 19s/low 20s(19.9, 20.0, etc).
One of our local racers has an Ion4 that has 19.1/19.2 on the sticker... I would like to look at it on my own MMS to see how it measures out, as those #s are much lower than anything I have ever seen/heard of for a 17.5.
Anyway... a good rule of thumb is to take any resistance #s with a grain of salt. Machines can vary substantially from each other depending on how they are calibrated or the quality of the connections/alligator clips/solder tabs/lower stator ring... and temperature/climate plays a big role in how the measurements come out.

Hi guys,
Have decided to take the leap and run Phantom motors from now on.
(Old saying if u cant beat em, join em)
I have a big T/C, 13.5 class race meet coming up next month.
Out door asphalt, Med grip, Med-large flowing track. Back strait is about 110Ft, (33Mtr)
It does have 2 tight 180 Deg switch-backs in the infield though.
1/ Should I go for the Apex V2 or the Ion V4.?
2/ Is the Ion a D3.5 based motor?
3/ What Stator/Rotor combination would be best
4/ What FDR should I be looking at?
Thanks in advance
