I was wondering how these units equalize individual cells? If you put an assembled pack in doesn't the battery connector bars touch the Smart Tray, not the individual cells.

Does this make sense?

Its because the tray is actually 6 dischargers; one for each cell. Remember that for DC current to flow, you have to have a negative and positive. Each spring clip provides that positive or negative connection and allows the cell to be dicharged, but only the cell between the pos and neg connection. As for the other cells on the pack, they are only connected to that particular discharger either on the negative side or positive side, but not both. Therefore, no current is drawn from them except by their own discharger.
