20 Minute Electric Main Li-Po Truck Class

W/ these chasis if you strap the packs in you can fit like 20k mah. However, I really think 8kmah is the most idealistic size just because a lot of chargers aren't designed to charge over an 8 amp rate, or a 1c rate for a pack over 8kmah.

Yes depending on the track size and type. You are going to use more battery for high bite fast tracks than technical tight tracks like the Nats had. A big track like the Farm will take more battery even though a racer did finish 3rd there this weekend using a Novak GTB with a 8.5 motor and a 4800 mah Orion li-po battery. He said he went around 30 minutes in practice with the same set up.
Less motor will give more run time if geared right.
I wonder how long a 13.5 and a 8000 mah li-po will go??? 1 1/2 to 2 hours??

I ran the 20 minute main at the farm and prabably close to another 15 or 20 minutes and the indoor track with my 6.5 and 8000 lipo. Good stuff.

I have heard of guys running a 20 minute main w/ a 4wd buggy w/ a 6.5 & a 4600 a123 pack. 4wd mod is the one electric class that can really draw some power & the packs last through that + another 3 or 4 minutes w/ only 4600 mah.

Craps I ran my 13.5 today with a 86 -22 5000 lipo at the grove for 30 min and the battery was at 7.4 volts when I put it on charger.

edit.... lol
Are you guys going to be running this class at the new indoor track this winter?

What would be real funny is that you would probably have run time to spare after the 1-1/2 hour race!!! WOW!
Turnmarshals what have to be a tag teams.

I,am one of the guys in the picture. Novak sent the shirts and some other products to give out to top Five. The one guy without novak shirt is a Tekin driver but he was running Novak because Tekin has not got their system out. I saw Tim open the box and there was no bill. This is not the first time Novak has sent shirts for Tim to pass out. All companies give away shirts decals an other items to promote their products. If you owned Novak and your product took the first 5 spots in a big series you would want to have a picture of it also. Not madd at all just explaining what went down.

You guys need to give a123 cells a try. You can lower the side walls to the battery trey a little and they will slide right in there. Then build 3 2s 1p packs & tape them togather, put a deans plug on each pack. Once you have done this build a parallel wiring harness & connect it to the esc. Then build a series wiring harness and connect it to the charger. Then you can build a 6s balancing plug for the cells. You can leave the balancing plug on at all times since none of the wires will complete any sort of circuit when they aren't plugged in to the charger. Now, you can charge your $50 pack built from dewalt cells in 15 minutes on a mrc 989. Oh yeah, its a 6900 6.6 volt pack. If you want to dummy proof the setup then use 3 differant types of connectors. Perhaps you could use deans, the new traxxas ones, & some other high current connectors. This way you never have to pay attention to what your plugging stuff in to. These cells will give you around 1500 cycles out of a $50 pack.

Not atm. I take 2 batteries and connect them end to end so they make a stick. 12 ga wire works fine for that. Then use a little electrical tape to keep them togather & in line. Then I tape the 3 sets of cells togather in a triangle. Two cells side by side are slightly wider then a chasis is wide. Now I go and trim down the sides of the battery slot. Since the batteries are round you don't need to remove all the sides to the slot, & you shouldn't remove all the sides to it either. While you build the pack do not forget to add your balancing plug connections. Then lay one side of the triangle pack flat in the battery slot. Then you can wire up your series & parallel wiring harness.

for those that are interested. crcrc in columbus is having an outlaw truck class with 20 minute a= main . lipo up to 6000 and what ever motor you want to run. must use lipo sack or bunker with uncased cells. january tenth is first day of practice.

xxxtruck: hey no problem I was just joking with craps.
I think a 1 hour enduro would be really cool. A local track did that as a tag team race recently, where they had a team of two guys take turns driving... so you could change your battery while the other guy was on the track. You also had to marshal your teammate
But doing it non-stop would be sweet... just gotta sucker some dudes to marshall the race.

kstarr- The Outlaw truck class at CRCRC I believe I read that it is any capacity Li-Po for the Outlaw class. Then I believe it is 6000 Mah Li-Po limit for all mod classes. I am looking forward to this race... went last year and it was a BLAST .
Yes... That is me without the Novak shirt in the picture above. Tim was trying to give me a Novak shirt to wear, but being a Team Tekin driver I didn't think it was too smart. I ran the Novak GTB 5.5 system and it is a good system. BUT... I now have my TEKIN R1Pro installed into my Losi XXXT MF1.5 .
