Sorry for being a little thick here, I have read through most of the thread but am still confused.
I have a motor with the numeric timing scale - can this be modified by shaving the legs on the timing ring, or is this variant designed to be equivelant to "runnign at the screw" when running the top of the scale?
Just curious as to whether this mod applies to all variants of the motor - running blinky 21.5t F1 so not taxing the motor much anyway.

Bought 3 new sonic's today, the first versions. A 4 4.5 and a 5.
Gonna play around tomorrow with the 4.5 along with a HW v3.1
Have 9.4 FDR 10deg endbell timing and modifi factory setting in the esc.
Any tips on gear it right and setup the esc?

Hi.
I have a 13.5T and a 6.5 sonic that I plan to use for 1/12.
Any suggestions as to the baseline rollout? Track is large indoor asphalt. Will be using a non-boost ESC. Also, what's the timing starting point?

Looking to replace my Stock Spec X12 17.5 with the new Reedy Sonic 540 Mach 2 17.5 Spec Motor. I've really liked the x12 and it still works good but I was looking for a bit more speed. I run on asphalt track that is pretty small and tight. Right now I have my X12 timed with the factory 4 dot insert and geared at 96/45 or 4.27fdr in my TC6.1. I run the LRP Stock Spec ESC in blinky mode. Temps on the current motor hit 180 or less on both carpet and asphalt.
Will the Sonic work good with the LRP Stock Spec ESC? Is the Sonic 540 Mach 2 17.5 Spec Motor a good upgrade to the X12? What are the fdr's that are good to run in my TC6.1?

I have a maybe 10 run old reedy sonic Mach 2 8.5. It was always noisy, sounded like transmission but it was all perfect. I just stripped to check shimming, and found the sensor board components are actually being warn by the armature, so I shimmed it so it stands away and removed the thinnest shim off the other end. It now has a tiny bit of float, but sounds like a weed whacker when you spin it by hand. Without the sensor board cap on it sounds crazy loud when u spin it by hand. I have spun the armature without the magnet in the bearing and it seems fine.
Has anyone else had this issue? Is it just a bad bearing or something else?

13.5 Mach2 - Confused
I can't understand why I smoked my 13.5 today on its second outing and welcome suggestions.
I ran 13.5 Blinky at my home track on Tuesday night for the first time. Each run it temped at 40 degrees C after 5 minutes. For those who usually deal in farenheit, 40C is quite cool.
I ran the same car set-up today at a slightly smaller track and smoked the motor after about 3 minutes in the first heat. It was not a hot day and the first heat was around 10:00am - not that warm.
Gearing was FDR 3.8 in a T4 with low friction belts.
Timing on the can was factory set 20 degrees.
I have been running 21.5 blinky Reedy's for a couple of years without issue, so and am not new to the brand.

The problem is with the bearing on the sensor board side and also the shim there. As the motor runs, the shim gets worn (mine actually melted a bit - ?crappy bearing) and the spacing gets smaller and smaller until the rotor will chew up the hall sensor on the sensor board.
I am going to try my 3rd and last 4.5 turn and this might be my last reedy

I have smoked 2 17.5 Mach2s. Both times did runs at 145F. Increased timing from 40-43 and they both cooked and burnt out my ESCs. This is on Blinky at 4.1 FDR.

I have been running an older 21.5 Reedy in blinky for well over 12 months set at 40 degrees timing & a FDR of around 3.1. On one occasion a cooling fan failed and the motor got so hot that it ruined the original rotor in it, but after replacing the rotor the motor has been performing well & reliably.
As for suggestions, don't buy another Reedy Mach2.
