Good brushed motor? The one that is un-opened in its original wrapper being used as a paper weight...that is the perfect brushed motor.

You can get a Novak Havoc 17.5 full system for under $150 if you check around. (It will run 1S lipo) Why would you go brushed?

The Co27 was a great brushed in it's day. Don't buy a brushed ESC new. Someone at your local track is selling a high end brushed esc for $20, just ask around.

The new Novak Havoc Spec Systems are 149.99.

The Havoc Sport (8.5) System is 139.99

If you are on a budget, check out the factory re manufactured items (new 120 day warranty) that we offer.

If I remember correctly, you mentioned that you were just starting out in another thread, so based on that, I would suggest starting out with brushless as you will want to switch pretty quickly anyway. Plus if you decide that 1/12 scale is not for you, the brushless set up will have a lot more value on the used market.

Also, before we can answer your question properly, we need to know what kind of batteries you plan to use? If they are old Nimh with less that 4200 mah, you should consider a 21.5 or 17.5 at the most. Anything hotter and you'll be going dead before 8 min is up. It's also a smart move to stay in the 21.5 - 17.5 range if you are just starting as anything hotter will just make you frustrated and end up breaking more parts. The Sportsman class at our track mostly run 17.5 but would probably drive better with 21.5's.

My reccomendation would be to see what the guys at your track are using. If you stay close to that, they can help with gearing and set up. The Novak deal posted above looks like a pretty good deal, but if $150 is out of your budget, there should be lots of used stuff in the For Sale forum. If you are dead set on going brushed, I can set you up with brand new LRP Quantum 2 and a couple of stock motors for $70 shipped. You probably saw the esc when you were thinking about buying my 1/12 scale car.

Just remember that having the most horsepower does not get fast laps by itself.
