started with slot cars in the mid 60's Got my first rc car in 1977 - Tamiya LP500 Lamborgini Countach Competion Special. Still have it!
In and out for 30 years. Too much $ to figure. Still love it!

Ill be 15 next friday, and Ive spent somewhere north of 2,000. And Ill have spent around 3,000 after March. 8ight T, Starter box, Axial .28, JP2 Pipe, RX pack, and servos add up like a motha.

I'm 21. I've been racing for 10 years. I have invested around $3.5k in to this hobby w/out race expenses. I would have to say that picking up a used rc10 gt at the local track was a very good investment considering that I was able to be very competitive localy w/out spending money on useless parts. I went through an ocasional motor, or servo, or radio. An updated gt, and tires. However, those things just don't break. Being able to drop $200 on fuel & tires then an ocasional $100 for a servo or motor was so much more economical then running the more popular classes of today. No wonder people whine about spending too much. They choose to run 4wd, the one class where horse power wins races. Here is a simple solution to spending your money. The next time you buy a bogus part take your car out to the track and time your laps. Now, if your lap times didn't improve then go and run a mile for every $5 you spent on the bogus product before you pick up your r/c again. Now when your wife asks you how much money you spent on the hobby today you can honestly tell her none, but you ran enough miles to pay off that new t2 07 edition in the past week.

Well I'm just about 37, So figure I've been messing with rc stuff on-off for 20yrs. I've sat back and tried to remember the cars,boats and misc. rc stuff I've had. I can easy figure I spent an average 1k a year and believe me thats tame. So I would guess 20k+ 
Was the point of this thread to make me feel guilty. No wonder my projects around the house never get finished 
. But whos to judge, the hobby has gave me so much. Its kept me sane in times of hardship, met countless cool people young and old, kept me outta bars and trouble for the most part and calms my nerves when a beer or pet couldn't. Downside maybe money spent or a girlfiend lost but the smell of nitro or the humm of a electric motor still thrills me to no end. So all in all I would say the hobby is priceless.....

32 - Been in and out for 20+ years and I'm scared to figure it up. Started with a $35 used Hornet and got addicted. The track I raced at in highschool burned down - twice!! -. Didn't re-open after the second time. I don't race now, so I only spend maybe $350 a year. Of course it would be more if my wife would see how important it is to have more horsepower!! If you're single be prepared to cut back when you get married. lol

Hmm... Good question. Had to think about this one for a bit. Well, I got into this sport late April of last year, so eleven months ago, by trading my gaming PC for an Associated FT-TC3, a Futaba T2PH, and a box of parts and wheels. Now I have a T-Maxx 3.3, an X-Ray M18, an IRS FT-TC3, a FT-T4, a FT-B4, spares for everything, batteries, chargers, power supply, pit table, pit lights, Team Magic pit bag, Associated driver sets, tool boxes, tires and wheels like rabbits, bodies, new airbrush... the list goes on and on.
37 years old, 11 months in R/C. A good $7,000 spent so far. Easily.
...and I'd do it again if I had to and will continue to do so for a long time to come!
