Very nice Jorge, thanks for the good data I'll go back and try it. What is the dyno and software you use? That would be nice to have!

It's a McPappy 1.0 w/eagletree logger, 5 loads and PC controlled ESC.
I use a modified version of the spreadsheet John Stranahan developed.

Just for sh**ts and giggles. This is a D3.5 17.5 maxilla on the dyno. This is my benchmark.

How is the MC2 17.5 in 1S WGT-R configurations? Is it considered a short stack can? Thanks.

What is the take-away from this? A little less rpm at 40 degrees timing but more bottom end/torque and efficiency? What's the recommended gearing and timing in 2wd buggy? Thx!

The re-shim testing was done last month.

You got it. The motor produces more power using less battery.

Not sure gearing for 2wd buggy.
If you were running 50* before, try 40 and go up 1 tooth first, then 2 teeth pinion if you are confident motor and esc temps are OK

Check lap times, Esc and motor temps to see what setting works best at the track.

Tried the Motiv MC2 17.5 in my 1/12 this weekend. Set a personal best lap time and overall number of laps by 1 lap. Much more power through the run and little to no fade.

What did you end up gearing it at? I am running between 85-86 mmpr with about 3-4 tenths of fade after 8 mins. Motor has been as advertised

45 degree timing on a analyzer, right around 80mm rollout.

High grip crc black, and a medium size flowing track. These new motors like to rev.

Hero lap was 7.8. Average 8.1 and last few laps in the main of 8 minutes were 8.2 average. Not much fade at all really. The 7.8 was just me driving right once in a race.

Great info guys!

I've been running some 17.5 TC on a medium/large asphalt track the past 2 months. I started with similar settings to what I ran inside and found the timing to be a bit too high. Temps were higher than I'd like and fade was an issue. I've been backing off of the timing and adding more gear and that seems to be helping on both fronts. Currently at 45* on the motolyser and 3.9 FDR. Working my way towards trying a low timing/high gearing setup soon, hopefully this weekend.

Congrats Aaron on your new personal best!

Putting the 17.5 in my WGT-R and will hopefully find the sweet spot with gearing before racing starts.

Default 21.5 F1 timing?

Hey guys.

Just picked up a new 21.5 on recommendation from LHS. We run 21.5 for F1 instead of the 25.5. FDR of the fast guys is around 3.2. (96/30). Any advice on timing?

Asphalt track, high grip, long straight and sweeper. 120ft+ 15-17 seconds/lap.

Thx

Mine arrived with 44 on the can. I didn't touch timing, but kept adding pinion through the night. I started with a 38, dropped to the 35 and then gradually went back up. At a 39 tooth the motor was coming off at the same temp as @ 35 and no fade. I didn't change it for the main, but it didn't get any hotter. I might still have more gearing to add. One other racer was running the same motor and was up to a 41 tooth pinion. I still need to work on my driving and find another tenth or two, but the motor held up its end of the deal.It is a short stack, with the S High Rotor.

I started testing below 35 estimated timing Mark on the can on the Dyno.

This are the results.

Since we noticed the power at 30 mark we started testing on the Track.

The results are surprising using RO in low-mid 90mm instead of mid 80mm.

Even though there is close to the same power in the 45 range, what we found was that the motor ran hotter and lost more power at 130*F at 45 setting than at the 30 mark.

From 2 different makes of the newest stator design I've tested below 35* both have shown the same power increase at lower timing.
