Bearing Cleaning Process

Microlon?
Has anyone tried soaking bearings in microlon?
on the japanese hpi site they did a test where it shows the bearings spin about six to seven times longer when treated.

Pops- with metal shielded/ metal cage bearings it doesn't matter what you use. With rubber or teflon seals only some brake cleaners will swell or damage the seals, not all. If you have an Autozone near you then buy the Albany brake cleaner. It work awesome as motor spray, bearing cleaner and will even clean your lexan body without damaging or clouding the lexan. And the price is right, too. I like it because it's an all-in-one spray for traveling.
You can also use empty pactra paint bottles to soak your bearings. Lacquer thinner works good for all metal bearings, but the best thing to use is spray carburetor cleaner. If the bearings have rubber seals then you must remove them and make sure the cages aren't plastic, but carb clenaer is awesome. After they soak for a day or so, take them out one at a time and blow them out with compressed air- can't get any cleaner!!!
For those of you who have never disassembled a bearing, there's a good tutorial with pictures on this site- Avid R/C

Hmmm can you get some more info on that microlon stuff? It sounds like a good deal. I might just get a walmart jewelry cleaner, or even go to Harbor Freight and get that "rechargable can", but I dont have an air compressor yet.

are you saying that the albany brake clean want hurt the rubber seal bearings? i will give it a try since its work on all the other you said.
guys i have been racing since 1989 and have taken amany bearings apart ,,, but this black rubber sealed bearing was a dog to get apart ,, and to be honest its not goin back in because it became war on taking it out ,, it didnt want to come out and i wanted it out, after a couple broken xacto tips , few good words i won, but it wasnt pretty
the rubber seal had like a metal ring or race inside the rubber and i never saw a retaining ring , like most other bearings do.
thanks for all the tip and ideals guys , i just didnt want to was these bearings even tho i have replace most of them with metal shielded bearings for now on my tc3s , i would put ceramics in them but ,,,wow ,, they cost alot and i yet have had a chance to race the touring cars much as i do my oval cars.

This is what they are talking about on the HPI website.. I have seen a few adds in the RC mags with Hara promoting it.

Exactly what product should you use from the microlon website for r/c?

From the packaging, the one similar to Hara using is the Racing Formula, under Automotive section. Black can that is.
