are there advantages / disadvantages between the two?

i'm assuming dirt will get into the vented ones so are they for on road only?
maybe they cool your cluch?
i dont know
i've only used closed ones in my car.

A vented clutchbell for offroad? Sounds like something Team Magic would make.

Any sort of openings in the clutchbell would only suck-in dirt, dust and debris, which are terrible for the inside of the bell and the shoes. Regular ones are your best bet.

I have a K-Factory one on my K-Car. Haven't seen any drawbacks with dirt. You can see you clutch shoe wear though through the vents.

the vented also helps cool the shoes and contact area on the bell. seems to keep engagement more consistent.

I have been running vented on my savage since i built it. Hell it came with one. Dirt seems to have no effect whatsoever on the clutch shoes. I started out runnig the stock carbon shoes and they lasted forever. Now i run aluminum shoes and if there is one thing that is certain it is that dirt is the last thing you should worry about with aluminum shoes. Where do you guys think those little aluminum shavings off the shoes end up?

Vented is better, keeps shoes cooler and like was already mentioned you can actually see the wear on them without takeing the C.B. off.

I use whatever the car came with, doesn't really make a big difference. Non-vented bell came with my eight, I use it, no problems.

i run the vented clutch bells only they dont seem to suck dirt when ever i take it apart the inside is clean unless im using carbon shoes then you see the carbon from the shoes everwhere but it keeps it cooler and i heard from somebody at the track that they last longer im not sure of that or not but ive had the same one for about a year and it is just fine just replace the bearings and shoes and your good

non vented bells will still get dirt in them from the back side and they dont let the shoes breathe and they are heavier
vented ones will suck the dirt as fast as it can get rid of it cause it will come through the front and go right back out the rear they keep the shoes lasting much longer and are lighter
i will never run a non vented bell......i wont feel safe

so what company makes a good vented clutch bell for a 1/8 buggy?
ya uh, I work at hobby people and we only have vented XTM bells. ya, XTM . i dont even know what XTM stands for.
