Hi all, im new to nitro, i bought a losi 8 with the above engine and ran it in as instructed but it can be great for 5 mins then i let it cool and re start for the next race and its out of tune
Could someone please advise me what to do as i said i am a newb to nitro but need to learn quickly.
Cheers

check for air leaks, and set back to factory settings and re tune

thanks but where could it be sucking in air?

How much fuel have you ran thru it ?.....might not be broke in yet.
maybe change glow plug after break in.
C6 can take almost a gallon or more before they come alive.
also make sure you put engine at bottom of stroke after running.....really important when breaking in.
what are temps?
let me know... i will help

Its had 1/2 a gallon through it so far.
The temp was only about 170 deg F as well
thanks I really want to get this thing going

With a 1/2 gallon temps of 170 are too cool. Get, and keep, that thing at 200-210.

Take your time breaking in the C6...Most guys I know took 1.5-2 gallons before using it "all-out" on the track. Same with me, I am almost done with 2 gallons, and have just started using it for racing, but am still light on the throttle, though my track rarely requires much throttle at all...

So you think it might be too rich?

you always want to keep your engine over 200F.....try leaning it out a bit.
The internal parts don't warm-up and expand till that temperature it might even be 210F I don't remember....but put some heat in it
try this
Do 1 tank at 210F....then do 4 tanks at +10 degree increments ending up at 250F.
let engine cool completely after each tank
remember to put engine at bottom of stroke after each tank.
hope this helps
I use different method to break in using only 6 tanks and ready to race.....but not recommended for begginer.
goood luck

Ok thanks guys,
Where do you measure the temp on the engine?
and also if i have an air leak where could it be and is there anything to look for or tell tale signs?

For air leaks look for wet spots on the motor around the head seal, the carb neck, the fuel fiting, the back plate seal, the front bearing & around the glow plug. This motor can be frustraiting to break in so take your time & don't worry it will all be worth it when you get it dialed in. That motor is a monster. Engine temp is normally measured on the head near the glow plug.

This engine is a pain to work with but I learned. You picked the wrong engine for a beginner!
Turn the HS needle out to about 4 turns and let it rip. The temps should be high even while running this rich because of the tight piston/sleeve. Once the engine warms up don't be afraid to give it 100% throttle. Roll the trigger from 0-100% throttle but don't hold it at full throttle. The temps should drop as the engine loosens up, so slowly lean it in. A heat gun or blow dryer is a must for starting it up. Makes life a lot easier.
You will never break this engine in while doing your super rich 25-50% throttle runs. It is very important to keep it the engine hot while breaking it since you are doing 100% throttle runs. Don't worry about it holding a tune or idle because you will only frustrate yourself. Break it in first! After you are done take it apart, clean, inspect, lube, and reassemble it. I also like to swap in a ceramic bearing after break in for good measure. Inspect the rod and make sure there is no slop. There should be zero if you kept the engine hot, but some recommend that you swap out the rod anyway. I don't but it is up to you.

the engine isnt that hard to tune and or break in. it was my first engine as well. http://www.rchobbies.org/cars_eng-tuning.htm read both pages and if you still have questions do a yahoo search and or ask RB on their forum at www.rbproducts.com

Just read the initial post again and I misread it. I thought it was a new engine but it seems like you bought it used.
Seems like your tune is just out of wack. Put it back to base settings, and tune it from there. There are plenty of tuning articles if you search around and you can start by reading mugenlife's link.
RB C6's are harder to tune than other engines so be patient and make tiny adjustments. You should also inspect the engine to see if everything is fine since it was a used engine.

I have never had tuning problems with the C6 , an hour here or there occasionally .
