Hello Gents.

I have been asking this question over and over in my head.

If "grip" engineered chassis (TA05, TA06, TB03, etc.) can be configured for drifting, can you do it the other way? Example, TA05 VDF, VDF II, TB03 VDF, TC-FD, etc.

Any advantages or disadvantages?

Yes I know what some might say, why not just buy a purpose built chassis for drift or grip...

It may sound silly but can it be done?

Sure but the weight bias wouldn't be very good for racing. You would need to free up the rear diff and possibly replace the front one way with a spool or gear diff.

I'm sure a drift specific chassis won't ever be as good as a race specific chassis if you are trying to race in a super competitive class however it could be fun in something slower like USGT or VTA racing. The first step would be to swap the front diff/rear spool setup around for a front spool/rear diff configuration. I would also try running a shorty battery inline as supposed to across the rear to bring the weight more centralized. I would look to setups for the Tamiya FF03 or even the Losi JRX-S as a starting point for camber, toe, shock oil, etc since they are front weight biased like the drifters. It could definitely be a fun project to test as long as you accept the limitations of driving a car completely differently from its intended purpose.

My next question is what would be a good drift chassis to acquire as a base platform for grip racing?

I'm looking at three:

1. TA05 VDF II
2. TC-FD
3. Yokomo
