hi guys i run the xray xb808 o9 spec and sick of the brake pads wearing etc and also wanted a better braking system.

can any one tell me how good the carbon fibre option brake discs go?

like wear time and do they slow ur car faster?

a friend of mine ran the 808 last year ..he upgraded to the hardened pads and carbon discs ..his words were night and day difference ..also the hardened pads will not warp from heat ...they are worth the money for sure ..and yes they stop much faster and better .....

I have the RC8B, and when my original brake discs wore out i bought some advantage gen 2 composite discs. They were half the price and half the wieght of the stock discs. I felt the brakes were just as good as the stock setup, but with them being lighter, that means less rotating mass and better acceleration. I say its worth the try.

I tried a set of carbon fiber brakes on my rc8b, it was terrible. they werent the advantage 2 brakes. do carbon brakes need prep work, scuff the surface before using?

I used a set on my 8t 1.0over a year ago and I liked them but then again I don't use the brakes much.

I also run a 808 '10 spec, and was wondering about the carbon fiber option dics. A buddy of mine( sponsered xray driver) swapped these in on his '10 spec, during the initial build. Just to try them out after running the stock metal disc setup on his '09 spec. He says that they stop very well, but notices that they start to fad during long mains( 30+ mins.). He recommends the advantage gen2 dics( blue ones) over the xray carbon discs.

unless we are talking about baked pure carbon rotors, anything "carbon fiber" brakes is a waste of time. when I had an Xray I used the option carbon rotors only to go back to steel, and eventually avids. carbon weave rotors generally use a epoxy resin as a binder that seems to make a poor braking surface. fiberglass rotors like losi or avid would use polyester binder that is harder and likely less in the composition vs the the glass fiber.

although I am using the hybrid whatever fiber-aluminum rotors from the RC8b with pretty pleasing results.

plain vanilla colored fiberglass is prolly your best option.

i dislike the stock xray setup. i am running a 808 10 spec and a do it yourself glue on fiber brake setup just doesnt seem to fit the build. still ran it a few races then switched to carbon setup. never seemed to get adjustment screws right with the disc style pad setup. am loving the carbon setup. and since im on a rant i also hate the stock 3 shoe clutch. switched to the asendancy and love it
