Yes, composite disks run with bare metal of the shoes.

The difference in colors could be a softness degree. Softer the material the more aggressive the braking with a shorter material life span.

If you want to try the new disks you can simply flip your current shoes with the material facing away from the disks. That way you dont ruin them if you decide to switch back.

Or you could buy the Metal pad part from an mbx5. The blue pads are fiberglass and the silver ones are carbon fiber, not sure about the black though. I'm curious why you would want to try anything but stock brakes though, stock ones work pretty good.

yea stock ones are good. i just wanted to try them. plus it lightens the drivetrain. but i do see they are wider. so the guides at the bottom will have to be modidied or not used.

I don't run the guides now. When I first got my Mugen I did, but then I talked to a few people who have been running Mugen for awhile and they said they never use them. So pull them off and you will be fine. I don't notice a difference what's so ever.
