Is the rubber wheel on the starter box new or worned out? Check that first. I had problems on mine too and after finding that out, no problems starting.

I have the same starter and problems...never got around to finding out why but try moving the rear of the car around until you find a sweet spot. I usually plug the igniter into the car and use both hands to move the car around and bump it up...

I hope you guys are using the gudies given in the Car kit and not the ones from the Starter Box kit!

Me and 1 other with the grey box have no problems whatsoever.

Riad with the old purple starter box did not seem to have issues either.

I have the OFNA starter box and it works great,place the car on top and push down. Lines up perfectly.

I have to tilt my car to one side to get the wheel spinning and then bump it. (but since my engine is brand new.. it wont turn.. urrghh..)

I feel your pain man...a new engine would take a precise bump on the starter. Try loosening your plug and when it fires up, quickly tighten it back. Worked for me during break in. Now it starts easily, but there's still that slight aligning problem. And yes, I am using the part that came with the 710 kit.

How realiable is the old purple serpent starter box ? Will the rubber wheel or the belts first get worn out ?

The older purple starter box is fine. It's actually the same as the grey one. Just different colour. I've used mine for 2 years. Still the same belts and same rubber wheel until I decided to change the rubber wheel when the I got the 710. Because of the rubber wheel wear, I couldn't get to crank the flywheel of the 710.

In case you didn't know, the belts used are the front belts of the 705 / Impulse !

I have the original purple box and the NTC3 box....actually, I like the NTC3 box more cause it get a bigger motor and I can fit a gel cell in there....plenty of power for my 15 engine as well.

And my old Serpent purple box, I actually added another 7.2v stick pack, so it is powered by (3) 7.2V stiick pack....lot more power.

The way I bump start my new engine (or any engine with lots of compression)..........I tilted the car a little first on the side while it is on the starter box, push the starter box and spin the wheel for a like a second or so, then I jam the flywheel onto the starter wheel, with the high rpm of the starter wheel, it will help to bump start tight engine.........

Somehow, you need to make sure the starter wheel is in high RPM before you landed your flywheel on it....

P.S. Make sure your piston is in the BOTTOM position before you jam the flywheel

I acutally pulled my engine and I having the guys at <LHS break it in on a bench.. I hope that fixes my problem.
