Anyone get one of these yet and run it?

How is it compared to the DB01....if you are coming from a DB01?

Seems to be priced alot higher than the DB01! Are you really getting +/-$100 worth more from the DB02 or is it just because it is a new design?

Would the DB01R still be a better buy than a DB02 with universals, slipper clutch and TRF Aeration dampers?

I wanna try one if 4wd buggy makes a comeback here.
My 501x I dont wanna run outdoors. But that one I sure will, looks like everything is all sealed up protected from debris.

I think the smart money right now would still be the DB01R, for the reasons you mention, CVD's, slipper, and the aeration shocks, plus alum suspension blocks and cf reinforced plastic parts...and Tamiya is still bringing out new parts, like cf shock towers and it has good parts support.

I'd still be interested in seeing this DB02 in full TRF "R" trim.

I take it this car barely has anything in common with a 502X than the DB-01 had with the 5*1X cars?

Well, it depends on what you mean by "barely" - the DB01 & 501/511 share a number of things:their suspension geometry, f/r suspension arms, steering bridge, f/r spindles and hubs, CVD's, slipper assembly, the same drive train (including ball or gear diffs, pullies, belts) wing mounts...I'm sure there are more, but you get the idea.

No, the DB series is not the all out racer that the carbon chassis' 501/511/502 are, but for most club racers, it's plenty of buggy to be competitive.

Wait, you were asking if it was a better buy over a DB01R if it already had those upgrades?

Tough call - you'll still want the alum suspension components and fluorine coated 5mm balls, but you have the main items. The chassis is still basic plastic, not the cf resin reinforced stuff of the R trim machines. Pick up some TLR or Kyosho big bore springs and some Traxxas spring cups/retainers and you'll be good to go!

That's the thing, I've never felt that carbon fiber plate chassis were the "correct" platform for offroad. I still think that plastic tubs are the way to go, along with aluminum plate chassis. Which is why I heart the DB-01! The DB-02 drivetrain looks super complex to me. And honestly, if I were to do it all over again, I think there are better shocks out now than the Tamiya aeration dampers.
