I see now the 6900 is available.

Trying to still decide between the 6900 and the 5700.

So what are the impressions on which unit works better for 4wd?

I was leaning towards the 6900.

My thoughts on this matter is buy the larger 7700 and set the settings on the lower settings and set the throttle curve "soft"... If you dont work the motor hard it will run cooler...If you run the smaller motor and start turning the timing up,steap throttle curv and have it come on hard it will run warm and is harder on the motor...

Just my 2 cents though.

Great post guys, I was looking into the same thing for my 4wd. Cain I was looking into a 7700 also, and was planning on running IB3800's. If they can pull a 9 single for 6-7 minutes I would think it could handle the 7700. But I could be wrong. My thing is my local track is setup for 1/8 scale, we have a 160' straight, big flowing track. That is why I was leaning towards the 7700.

I have run the Novak 4.5 (original rotor) in a T3 on an 1/8 scale track (long straights). I never had too much power so long as I controlled that throttle finger and had my gearing in the right range. I found lower gearing than recommended was better, because higher took took too long to spool up (that may change with the sintered rotor). The 4.5 is 9,000 krpm/V no load versus the Mamba 7700 (7,700 rpm/V I believe) - although without a torque comparison I don't know the "true" speed comparision.

And I got about 14 minutes run time on good IB 3800 promatchracing.com packs I got at my LHS. This on a large track, long straights with a bunch of 180's, lots of acceleration. However if your packs are old with high IR they might get too hot - just test them out next practice and see how they do before you invest in new ones. I used some really old 5 year old packs and they got way too hot.

I know the 4.5 is a hotter kv than the 7700... but I would say they are similar in power... the castle motors have more grunt than the sensored motors, imo. So they tend to make up for the lower kv with more torque = gear taller.

But I have not compared these motors myself. I have driven a Vector 6.5 and I would say that the MM 5700 is faster (geared different of course)

They are different animals... but both are very fast.

i found this thread because i have a 7700 in my mf2 running off of TFT 6XIB4200 and tho i have set punch control up and turned the timing to a lower (possibly lowest) setting, the setup loves to have pretty short run-time, especially off-road. it's as fast as any stadium truck i've ever seen, nitro or not, but on road, with specially prepared road hawgs, i get about 10-12 minutes. on short grassy/ dirt terrain with lots of bumps, i get about 6 or so. On dirt, i've not timed, but it seems a little more than the grass, but i have yet to take this to a track other than a BMX track.

Anyone end up going from the 7700 to a 5700 on nimh? I'm curious how much of a run-time gain i'd see. I might end up going LIPO but i still have old school fears about it lol and i am not sure how much more runtime i'd get in reality.
