With HPI and Taymia coming out with their new F1 cars, do anyone think this class could be as big the VTA or RCGT class???

Maybe if there anough people using them at one event!

Also it will requir some very skill drivers to be racing close in a open wheel class I couldn't do ill tell you that for sure ahaha

2 tracks in my area have gone from zero F1 cars to having a heat on a regular basis over the winter. The Tamiya cars are fun and pretty easy to get running, I'm sure the HPI will be the same.

I'll probably end up getting both cars because I'm such an F1 nut. My only beef with them is that they're too different from each other and can't really race in the same class without some changes. The f104 uses a 6-cell battery with foam tires and seems like a more serious racer while the HPI F1 uses a 4 cell battery, gear differential and rubber tires and looks to be geared towards the novice. I can't really say until I get them in my hands but I have a feeling bringing them more in line with each other is do able.

F1 has been added to the RCGT Showdown series.

With the tamiya track still open... turnout for the newly added class should be pretty good.

F1 comes and goes. Just like some other odd classes, like mini. Mini seems to be going down, and F1 on its way up. With Tamiya, Cross, HPI, and Corally all with their own cars. It's a good year for F1.

Mini will make a comeback, sooner or later.

F1 died here in Florida back in 1996. Still have my Tamiya F1 with some of the old hop ups to allow the use of 1/12th tires or to be competitive with the old HPI you needed the 1/10th tires. Switching to american bearing and axles just took the adapter. Had several new in the bag complete axle setups to convert the tamiya's made back in 1996. If anyone is interested I'll look and try to find them?Oh I've even got a new in the bag Composite craft tamiya chassis.

yeah this hobby has its mood swings. But what i think hurts the hobby, is too many class. does anyone agree??

I think too many classes help the hobby and hurt the racers or races. It sucks to race a certain class for a period of time and then it dies. It's the way this hobby has been for a long time and I'm pretty sure it's going to continue to do the same. That is also the way company's make money.

Classes die becouse the lack off good rules.
Back in 96-97 the cars just got out of hand. HPI, Tamiya, Corally, ect. They all made nice lookin cars.People want to run mod but mod motor is not suited for an F1 R/C car. To many rule changes for the real car to just let them all run together in 1/10 scale. 2000mm with back in 1997 to 1800mm in 1998. All the wing changes ect. If there aren't clear rules it will end up in those ugly cars again: Oversized wing and endplates, 235mm rear axle, 44mm trued tires that are also to wide,...

Barry we only raced them with the stock 27 turn motors with the sanyo Red SCR and later 1700 and 2000.as I said the Tamiya cars used 1/12th foams while the Hpi used 1/10th. the new Corally also uses the 1/10th foam while the Tamiya uses 1/12th- a big handling difference.

That is the biggest problem- the different tires. Even the normal 1/12 tires are different than the Tamiya in width, not to mention that the rear end is way too narrow with 1/12 tires/axle on a 1/10 based car.

What someone needs to do is come up with ride height adjusters for 6mm bearings/axles, or an axle cut down to 6mm on the ends so Tamiya style parts could be mounted. Of course it probably won't happen
