Default How to ID a Car or How to tell what's missing

First, let me say hello to all, since I'm new here and relatively new to the whole rc car "thing".

My son, a while ago, picked up a RC Car from a garage sale for $5. It was missing parts and at the time we never really took the time to go over it.

Now my son has a new RC Car and watching him play with it (and taking a turn at the wheel from time to time) has made me think about seeing if I could get that old car running.

Here's my problem though... I have no idea what kind it is.

I'm assuming it's an off-road nitro just based on the suspension/wheels, engine and shape.

There is no brand on it other than on the engine (Dynamite) and the servo's/controller (JR something or other... I think, I'm not at home at the moment).

I know there are a few obvious parts missing... muffler, battery for servos... but other than that... well and it needing a new pull start... I have no idea what I need.

Is there some way to identify the car so I can locate a manual, or is there a general resource that might help me to identify what parts are still missing from it?

If I can get it running then I won't have to purchase a new one.

Thanks for your help.

Radio gear and engine makes it sound like a Losi/Horizon product.

But could be an Associated RC10GT as well.

Post pics!

Whatever it is, it sounds like a good buy for $5!

Thanks for all of your replies.... You guys rock.

I looked up some of the suggestions listed and what I have closely matches the pictures and schematics, I could find, of the Losi NXT that was mentioned.

I'm hoping to post some pics this weekend just for confirmation.

Now I just need to see what I need to get it up and running.

Since you are new to the forum you won't be able to post pics.

You can send them to [email protected] and I can post them for you. (as well as help identify the car)
