Default Resources for Suspension Geometry Design

Anyone know where I can find information about suspension design and the ideal geometry? Any good books on this subject? Thanks.

This site covers setup and the principals of suspension, it may be useful to you.

Not really such a thing as an ideal geometry, if there was all cars would be exactly the same.

You can find hundreds of books on the Society of Automotive Engineers website.

Thanks for the responses. I know all designs are compromises, the ideal would be an active suspension system, I think. What I meant was the "theory" of suspension design.

Probably the definitive book on the subject is "Race Car Vehicle Dynamics" by William and Douglas Milliken. ISBN: 1560915269

Also keep an eye out for "Chassis Design: Prinicples and Analysis" by the same authors. ISBN: 0768008263 It will be published in February 2002.

Default Suspension arm length

How can I determine optimum suspension arm length (for on road cars)? Is it as long as possible? Or is there an optimum between too long and too short? I know with shorter arms as the suspension compresses, the wheel increases in camber, track width decreases, and the effect is less so with longer arms, but I'm not sure what's the 'best,' what are the drawbacks/advantages of different configurations, and how to find a good compromise. Any insight would be appreciated.
