Looks like a bumper brace of some kind. I'd hate to see what happens on full head-on collision..

Hi all

I was wondering if anyone on this thread has doen any similar testing to the graph that I have attached?

It is a Time vs Voltage graph of some of my older packs that were loaded with a 20 A lamp load.

Thanks

Denney - Great results! That's what we like to hear!
Thanks for the support.

I have seen graphs like that. If you had some GP3300 cells, you would have a more clear picture of how far superior they are. At 300 seconds they would still be above or very near 7 volts.

John, Daniel or Jimmy-

I've been experimenting with variable rate discharge with some of my older packs with some success, and I'd like your input about it in relation to your cells.

My current discharger works like this:
Vmax to 6V: 20A
6.2-5.9V: 15A
5.9-5.7V: 10A
5.7-5.5: 5A
5.5-5.35: 1A

My thinking was that a lower discharge rate as the cells approached 5.4V would prevent the voltage bounce seen if the cells are run down to 5.4V at 20A and then pulled off (mine jump back to about 6.8V within a few seconds). I haven't had a chance to measure the discharge curves yet, but subjectively the packs I've cycled this way a few times seem to run just as strong as they used to, but a little longer.

Thoughts?

I hate to say this because it may sound like we have a dislike for Sanyos but to be honest, the 3000 were better then the newer 3300. We've had some extensive tests earlier this year and considering even the older 1st and 2nd gen GP3300 will out perform the Sanyo3300 both in IR and discharge voltage curves.

1. Store the cells bottomed out at 5.4v
2. Peak the pack at 6amps, with a 3mv cutoff.
3. Repeak just before the run at 6amps with a 1mv cutoff
4. after the run, discharge at 30amps.
5. let rest 1.5 to 2 hours
6. repeat whole process
7. No more then 2 or 3 charges/discharges in a day

I only plan on putting one pratice, and one race on each pack a week.
That is correct! although when we have time to meet at the tracks, I'll let you in on another secret.

Our C.E.T. system does graphs as well but on a computer screen and the discharge curves are a lot better in terms of voltage vs. runtime and only a slight drop throughout it's discharge until the very last 30 seconds. Maybe I can have one on our website.

Ah very cool. If you ever come to SoCal, let me know. I am usually there every Saturday from 10am till racing is over.

You could always let me in on your little secret via PM

The secret is to discharge the pack, then place on an equalizing tray about 20 minutes PRIOR to charging.

Big gains!

He said it, I didn't but yes, that is ONE of not-so-secrets.

I agree. I bought three packs of Sanyo 3300's when they first came out. They've always seemed soft. I recently picked up 2 sets of Sanyo 3000's from a friend for practice packs (one pack of Ultra Metal, and one pack of Stock Metals) and they're both punchier than the Sanyos were when they were new.

My newer GP's blow ALL of my Sanyo's out of the water.
