It's to let air in and out. If the holes weren't there the weight of the car will push air out of any small hole it can find as the tyre squashes. If there is no hole the air can't get back in and you end up with a squashed tyre.

Should I be putting in 1 hole or more? How big should the hole be? I have drilled one 3mm hole in each wheel so far.

Or if you seal it real good then the tire bounces like a basketball...not real good for the handling

I use 1 hole, about 1mm in diameter.

I use two 3mm holes opposite each other, to help balance out the loss of material. The foam in the tyre keeps any dirt out.
A UK specific problem, but having bigger holes also makes it easier to get the water out after racing in the rain.

Yokomo 001n Set Up
Hi,
Would anyone have a good starting set up for a narrow/rubber 001. I will be running on indoor carpet with low grip..21.5 motor with shorty lipo and laydown servo.
I had a look on Petitrc but can't find any rubber indoor setups?
Any tips also welcome as this is my first F1..
Thanks,
Keith

I see you are from the UK - Any decent tarmac tracks up your way?
I'm having real problems finding anywhere that has on road racing

To find somewhere I would suggest starting with the clubs list here, although it is quite old and a lot of clubs don't exist any more. You do find a lot of clubs are concentrated in particular areas, with big gaps in between. Here around Manchester I have the only on road club, but nearer the Wirral there are several on road and not much off road.

Need a little help.......have an F104W with the Wolf body. I remember reading somewhere on this thread that the kit tires that come with the car are crap, and
need to be replaced. What are the tires I should get?; and bear in mind that I'm looking for the wider tires that fit the 70's era of that car. The car will be raced on an asphalt parking lot

I posted this in the F104v2 forum, but i'll share it here as well since it's the general F1 group. I have been struggling with front end grip, and i have tried all sorts of front tires, but recently read that Caster helps with these cars, so i found out you can make top arms from some parts i already had, here's my result
I have noticed my front tends to "hop" a little making my car push, i'm hoping this will help me get a better setup, and i will also try to move my shorty lipo as far forward as possible by removing the tabs on my servo and bringing it another half inch forward.
