I'm about to rebuil my 8ight-T clucth. Everything was pretty much smashed and fell apart.
The one thing I'm not sure about are the shims. What size, how many and where? I've only found one exploded view and was not helpful.

This will be a Losi 14t bell on a Losi 4-shoe clutch if that helps.

I have the shims. Just dont know where they go. On both bearings? 1, 2?

Add shim/shims between clutch nut and inner bearing (bigger bearing) so that your bell doesn't rub the flywheel (I use 2). Shim between outside bearing (little bearing) and clutch spacer to get the proper clutchbell play, Manual says .25 -.50mm.

I am is sort of the same jam. I am installing a new engine, and I am following the manual. But, when i put 1,2,3, or 4 shims against the flywheel nut, and tighten the clutch bell screw into the crankshaft, everything gets tight and the clutch bell doesn't spin freely. with 3 or 4 shims and tighten, i get a bumpy feeling when i try to spin the bell. kind of like a bearing with a flat spot. when i disassemble and check the bearings I don't feel anything. hand pressure on the bell doesn't dot it either. only upon tightening the bell screw.

You guys need to play with the spacing just add or take out shims right after the clutch nut. As you add or take out the spacing between the top of the crank and clutch bell will move.

I've been doing that. Too few shims and the center of the bell grinds on the inside of the clutch assembly. Added more shims and that went away. But when I tighten the bell screw I get into trouble. I suspect its in the bearings but I have to get some more to verify. They feel smooth until I tighten the bell screw.



wow, rookie mistake. It seems that the new clutch collet that came with my new nova plus 28-7t engine is not compatible with the losi 8ight-t 2.0 rtr clutch and flywheel assembly. the clutch wasn't going far enough back on the crankshaft for it to go through the outer bearing. after the swap the flywheel dropped back right where it was supposed to and everything else fit perfect. that is unless there is something i'm not seeing. i hope it all holds together for break-in!

You need an M3 by M5 spacer to "extend" the crankshaft. This kit has a couple.
