6 is the safe way to go. I wouldn't set it anything under 6v. You don't need a seperate voltage cut off most regulators will cut off when the batt reaches below 6v.

Im running Reedy Lipos and Reedy's voltageregulator (5 amp) and Ive noticed that it does generate a fair bit of heat. Which is why its probably a good idea to unplug it when youre not using it, since as someone else said youll drain your battery below a point where youll damage the battery if you try to charge it again (may even risk an explosion).

if use LiFe will be better, without the regulator
