I tot so. Apparently, on a general observation, all the guys running 104 yesterday had a higher wear rate on the fronts. They near the rims after 4-5 packs of say about 7 minutes of runtime each.

See you this sunday. Boy i have much questions for you.

Is there any way to run the F103 front wheels/tyres to try the different compunds? I killed a new set of kit tyres in less than 30 minutes track time but only 2mm off the rear

At the moment, i think not. I think somebody tried to squeeze the 103 fronts foams on the 104 front wheel. no feedback yet..

Basically the 103 front rims are too small for the 104 kingpins, so that's why it wun work.

or it is suppose to give more grip and have better tire wear?

now i am confused..
i thought so, same as rubber tires if we use paragon fx.
it softens the foam, = more wear i think.
looks everyone here has same problem with the front tire.
would try the harder one (type B)

running F104 is a lot of fun, but..
change front tire every race day = not fun anymore..

What arbor works? I tried the d-drive one for f103 my buddy had and it worked for the rears, but the front rim hole was too big for the arbor to hold

Ran my F104 with 17.5 first time. Pushed alittle as the rear was stuck but tightening the nut on the top damper plate thing helped alot.

I ran 4 runs of 6 mins with hardly noticable front tire wear, high grip asphalt 160'x90' track

to a degree yes, but in reality not necessarly.
Foam tire wear in front comes from scrubbing/lateral friction.. that is to say the friction generated by the angle of the wheel and the grip of the tyre.

By using traction compound, you give the tyre more grip, hence more turn-in for a given degree/angle of steering.
If you reduce your steering throw (less epa) while having more inherent grip, you will keep decent handling specs while reducing a little the wear.

it will not be perfect, but it will help.. !

I think the wear rate is on both your driving style and toe-in/out you set for your F104.

For me, I like to throw the car when I really need to take the corner tighter to overtake, but any other times, I will drive smoother into the corners to reduce my pocket wear (for the obvious reasons).

I never use those traction compound also for the same reason: pocket wear. The only time I remember using it was at a carpet race.

Besides our topic, you guys should have realised that Tamiya made a bigger wheel set for the F104. And for that, they came out with thinner tires. I see it both ways; big wheels so when the foams wore out, it would not scrub the chassis, thin tires to keep changing tires.

I'll try to help in whatever way I can.

For all you know, the weight of the damper oil plays a big part of the steering, and in turn, affects the wear rate of your tires.

I would like it if they are still able to use 103 tires.

Alfie
what weight should we use as start point?
is the friction grease also important?
