Novak GTB numbers and how they compare to brushed.
Hey guys....Maybe this questions has been asked here before, but I couldn't find it...
On the Novak GTB systems, does anyone know how the systems compare to brushed motors as far as winds go? Like the 5.5, 6.5, 7.5, etc...?? I know they can't be exact comparisons to brushed, but just how they compare approximately would help.

Well, that's kind of a trick question. Some people disagree, because they get different results with the same winds on brushed motors. My 5.5 seems to be around a 9T or maybe an 8T. The 7.5 brushless seems to be closer to an 11T or 12T. The 4.5 and 3.5 are just fast, like a really mean low turn mod.

Thanks for the info....I suspected that getting an exact comparison would be difficult....lol. I was just hoping to get a ballpark idea of what I wanted. I was looking for an equivalent of about a 13-14x2 for off-road truck racing, so it sounds like I would prolly want at least an 8.5 system....

I wouldnt agree with R40 completely. The 6.5 is equivalent to a 11-12t brushed, and the 7.5 is more like a 13-14t brushed. Most truck guys use the 6.5 though, its perfect for most tracks. The 7.5 would be a good choice if your on a very tight track, a very loose track or if your running Li-po batteries. I ran the 5.5 in my T4 for a while and it is very quick, and I felt the power band was really quite good, but if you don't have the trigger finger for it your in trouble.

Thanks for info wheelnut....I kinda figured I would get a variation in what people thought about them and how they compared, but that's okay.....it'll still give me a good idea of what I need.
I'll be running on a pretty tight, technical high-bite indoor off-road track if that helps with input on this....

That was to be my next suggestion, get a good heat sink for the motor. I had a few problems with my Pro 4 using a 5.5 Very conservative gearing, a huge heat sink, and an extra fan on the ESC, and it works very well. Then again, you won't have to deal with the stress/drag of 4WD, or the heat of 140 degree asphalt...

Thanks a bunch for the input Briguy....Again, I figured opinion/experiences would differ on this, but this is what I was hoping for....was to get some opinions, and use the info to get the system that is the closest to the winds that I want....

what I noticed with the GTB is to take the number of the GTB and double it. That should give you your closest crossover point. The 13.5 was released as a "Stock" class brushless, the 6.5 is closer to a 13, the 5.5 is closer to an 11, and so on.

Hmm, my 5.5 was haning with several 8T and 9T motors, but that's on-road in touring cars. The only way they were faster was with a couple hot, well tuned 6T & 7T motors, otherwise, we were very evenly matched. Our track only has one place to really stretch the legs of mod motors, and like I said, very little difference at all, came down to driver skill...
Edit: The biggest difference was, while they were feverishly cutting coms and swapping brushes, I was chillin eating some Chinese food...

After running lots of brushed Mods and having experience with nearly all of the Novak motors. This is the best I can come up with (opinion). Remember that many brushed motors run differently but this is based on an average brushed.
SS4300/ 10.5 = 19 spec
SS5800/ 8.5 = 14-15t
7.5 = 13t
6.5 = 11t
5.5 = 9t
4.5 = 7t
3.5 = 5t?
I woldn't run less than 5.5 in any offroad racer.
If were picking one for offroad mod, I'd only run the 5.5 in 4wd buggy. The 6.5 is really nice in an ST and the 7.5 would be plenty and a little milder. The 7.5 or even 8.5 would be plenty for 2wd buggy, depending on track.

Scoob-----Appreciate the info from you too. Well, like I said, I appreciate it from everybody, for that matter!!!
It seems like their is a little difference in opinion, not TOO much. I'll prolly go with the 7.5 system it sounds like. I usually turn more consistent lap times with a solid, fast motor, rather than a ballistic fast motor.....and I can always get a different motor if it doesn't turn out like I want, I guess.
One last question......Does the GTB system work with ANY of the Novak brushless motors?? Such as: the 13.5 (stock equivelant) motor?? I'm getting mixed info on this topic from the people I have talked to about it. I don't have a crapload of extra cash to spend experimenting with this, so I need to make sure I get what I need the first time around. And, if I'm going brushless, then I want to be able to race "stock" at our club races too, since they allow the "stock" brushless motors to run there, with the brushed stuff.....Hopefully ROAR will follow suit on this in the near future, but I'm not holding my breath!!!
