If you getting a kit the extras id suggest is a spool which is a must have in my book, a spare set of belts as well as spurs.(102 spur std)
I much prefer the std Scythe kit compared to the ally kit for asphalt.
For the plastic base kit a set of bulkhead top peices for the shock mounts.
a few toe plates for tuning.
The suspension parts ie a-arms uprights etc.. are all cyclone/Pro4 parts so should be very easy to get.

27T stock gearing is in the 28T - 35T range with 64 pitch.
As for shock pistons the std ones are great and for better feel i have drilled the holes to 1.2mm and use 45wt GS oil.
Std springs are working well for our tight asphalt track but TOP has a a neat spring kit you can by with a selection of 12 pairs alternative is a TeamMagic spring kit.

So far over the last 8 months of running the Scythe i have rebuilt a diff and replaced the bulk head tops once after some exhuberant driving.Other than that car has been very durable and reliable.
This Saturday im running it in a 6 hour enduro so will see how she takes that abuse.

Is there any build tips or issues that you can point out when building an 07 or 08 model?

What make and what type of springs are best/most used on this car?

Does anyone have a set up that is good on carpet med traction rubber tyres?

What would be advised when running a 19 turn motor and a 27 turn motor, spool diff etc?

Cheers

Have you downloaded these :

Scythe Instruction Manual (Rev. 2)
http://www.top-racing.jp/UploadFile/...2125634591.pdf
Scythe Assembling Addendum
http://www.top-racing.jp/UploadFile/200632211214422.pdf

Car goes together well and i would suggest you get some shim sets to take out slop on the wheels and hinge pins.

For 27T and 19T i would recoomend you get a spool as a option for tuning at your local track, i prefer it to the oneway.
For springs try the std ones first they are not bad at all for that matter try the std setup and take it from there. I was surprised how close the std setup was to how i like.

Try tuning with sway bars rather than spring rates. The stock springs work well.
